HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Brussels Post, 1980-08-20, Page 6Ontario's Property Tax Gran! applications were mailed this week to all senior citizens receiving the federal Old Age Security pension. If you are eligible, complete the application and return it as quickly as you can. Your Grant will soon be on the way. These Property Tax Grants of up to $500 help offset municipal and school taxes for Ontario's Senior Citizens. There is also a Sales Tax Grant of $50 each for every senior citizen starting in 1980. For seniors, these Grants replace Ontario Tax Credits pre- viously claimed by filing income tax returns. PROPERTY TAX GRAMS You are eligible for an Ontario Property Tax Grant if: • You are 65 years of age or older and • You paid rent or property taxes on your principal residence in 1980. HOW MUCH DO YOU RECEIVE? UP TO $500, STARTING IN 1980. • If you own your principal residence your grant will equal the amount of your property taxes or $500, whichever is less. • If you share your home with anyone other than your spouse, the grant will be apportioned according to rent or property tax paid. EXCEPTIONS: Only one grant will be paid to a married couple or to unmarried seniors sharing accommodation. People living in homes for the aged or similar insti- tutions are not eligible for this grant. SALES TAX GRAMS A $50 grant will be paid annually to every senior citizen. STONEHOUSE 887-9847 The *Be!grave Kinsmen held the first Early Bird Draw '"of their lottery on. Saturday, August 16 at the Belgrave Arena, The winner of the $300.00 prize was. Dr. Andrew Manson of London Ontario. The lottery is being held to raise money for the expansion of the. Belgrave .Communtly Park and tickets are still available for future draws from any Kinsmen member. The August meeting of the. afternoon unit of the U.C.W. held in the school room of Knox United Church fea- tured the annual birthday party . for those of the community who have cele- brated an 80th birthday. Sixteen specially invited guests were seated at the u-shapea table glittering with silver and aglow with sweet peas, carnations and baby's breath. Mrs. Cecil COultes gave a special welcome. Thank you to those who provided trana- portation for the seniors. and to those who assisted in arranging the party. Mrs. Coultes continued with a meditation using these lines: We are not store- rooms, but channels; • We are not cisterns but springs; Passing our benefits onward, Fitting our blessings with wings. 01 course our minds are the storerooms and with our years are well filled with valuable treasures,. We like to channel or tell the least important ones, perhaps some pranks, but the valu- able ones are kept secret. Are we the , channels we could be? Are we passing the. treasures in our storerooms on to our.loved ones? A storeroom of entertain- tient followed with musical numbers by the Coultes girls. Karen, Andrea and Allison accompanied by Joanne. Reading by Mrs. William Kelly and Clifford Coultes, vocal numbers by Clarke Johnston and mouth organ selections by Mrs. Hester Bradburn with each accompanied . by Mrs. Norman Coultes at the piano. Scotch dancing by Katherine and Jennifer Procter and Heather Morton. All joined in community singing led by Clarke Johnston. Two cakes with lighted candles were cut by two of the honoured guests. Mrs. William Kelly and Mrs. Elizabeth Leslie. When all joined hands to form a circle around the seated guests. Happy Birthday was sung. Howard Wilkinson, on behalf of all present spoke words of appreciation. PERSONALS Mrs.,„Donald Player and son Brian of Stratford visited on Tuesday with her uncle Leslie Bolt, who it a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital. They were also guests of Mrs. Leslie Bolt of Belgrave, Mrs. Leslie Bolt visited recently with her sister-in- law Mrs. William Bolt of Huronview, Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. John Doris and son Terry of Rankin, Texas spent a few days recently with her patents Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weber. Mrs. Cliff Logan spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. America. Arruda and girls of Toronto, after returning from her trip to the. Yukon. This community expresses, their best wishes to. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. R. Mrs. Adam Sholdice of Parksville B.C. and son Brian of Ottawa visited with her sister and brother-in- law Mr. and Mrs. William Black and brother and sister- in-law Mr. and Mrs. William Nethery and family and also spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Edward McGill of Bolton who are holidaying at their cottage near Orillia., Mrs. Alvin Orvis.and. Mrs. William Eadie of Wingham were supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse on Friday. Mrs. Len Jarvis of Listowel spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler. Mrs. Dorothy Pelfer of Toronto spent a few days last week with Mrs. Sara Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. George Michie and Mr. and Mrs, Albert 'Cook attended the Scottish World Festival at the. C.N.E. Toronto on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent and Mrs. Cliff Logan have just returned home after having,a very enjoyable trip to Alaska, Yukon and southern Alberta. ' .,Mr. and Mrs. Clark Peaten, Sharon, Yvonne and Linda: of Paisley, Scotland returned home last Sunday after spending six weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Procter. Congratulations to Katherine Procter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Procter for passing her Grade II 1, Rayal Conserva- tory, Of Toronto piano exam with an, honours atanding. Also congratulations to Debbie ,Campbell of Blue- vale, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Alan Cainpbell for pas- sing her Grade 1V piano exam. Both girls are pupils of Mrs. Judy Morton. A meeting of the Belgrave Blyth and Brussels School Fair Board was held In the Belgrave Community Centre on Thursday evening to final- ize plans for the 60th anni- versary of the School Fair which will be held in Bel- grave on Saturday, Septem- ber 13. We sincerely hope that many . former teachers and -students from this commun- ity will come back and join in the celebration with us. Special events include a parade starting at 1:00 p.m, and •a barbeque to conclude the afternoon. Mr, and Mrs. Gerald Beck and Trevor have recently moved to their new home at Timmins. . Kitty Hartleib and Joanne Coultes visited on Saturday with. Kitty's uncle arid aunt Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Doherty of Stratford. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent and Mrs. Cliff Logan returned home on Thursday after' a conducted tour to Yukon and Alaska.
