Church, at the Shouldice
Settlement near Shallow
Lake, the reunion committee
presented a plaque in
commenoration of the 75th
anniversary of the building of
the church.
After the church service
the family gathered again at
Shallow Lake Community
Centre for lunch. They had
the opportunity to share
information, look over
ancestral charts,
photographs, copies of land
registries and newspaper,
clippings referring to the
achievements ' of the
Shouldice family.
The next Shouldice
reunion will be held in.
Ottawa in 1985.
4H girls learn emergency care
Belgrave' 4-H Club met
July 14, at Mrs. Harvey
Black's. at 7:00 p.m.
Members ' discussed what
skit toper to do for achieve-
ment day and were shown
how to make a splint and a
pressure bandage.
_ They
discussed what to do in
emergency situations, and
basic first aid.
Members were shown how
to do artificial respiration
- and discussed what to do in
case of storms also in case
you get lost. The 4-H'
camping trip is scheduled for
July 18th at Falls Reserve .

Mr. and Mrs. Russel
Knight of Brussels attended
the First International
Shouldice family reunion
held recently at Shallow
Lake. Mrs. Knight was
formerly Ella Sholdice.
Four hundred members of
the Shouldice family were, in
attendance from throughout
the United States and
Canada. Among those were
Dr. Kenneth Shouldice, of
Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan',
who is president of State
College there and has been
an American delegate on
Missions to countries
throughout the world
including' communist
countries and Red China,
Also present at the reunion
was Hays Shouldice, a
member of the Canadian
football hall of fame.
The origins of the
Shouldice family go back to
the Pala ltinate country , of
the German Rhineland.
Religious oppression
harassed them and after the
French armies laid waste the
country', thousands of the
Palatine people went to
England. Many went to
Ireland. In 1818, when
conditions in Ireland became
intolerable some of the
Pala. Mine people settled in
Canada Others in the United
States.
The reunion began with a
smorgasbord dinner at the
Shallow Lake Community
Centre on Saturday evening.

Saturday afternoon of July
`19,, a very successful Lawn
Bowling Tournament was
held on the Brussels. Greens
with 60 bowlers from. God-
erich, Mitchell, Clinton? Sea-
forth, Atwood, St. Marys,
palmerston, Blyth, Kitchen-
,er, Brantford, Exeter, Han-
Belgrave II decided to go
camping. June 25-26 at Ross
Higgin's bush. After supper
a .couple of members caught
a fire-fly which interested
mostly everyone. It' was
,
getting dark so they built
another campfire and sang
songs..
Later they played on the
buses and told stories. After
all this excitement .everyone
was getting hungry.
Members made some
sandwiches in the toaster
grills and had some jiffy
popcorn. Soon it was bedtime
and the girls had a fashion
show with night gowns on.
Next morning members
had' bacon and eggs cooked
in a paper bag, french toast
and pancakes cooked over a
fire for breakfast. They
cleaned up after, brezikfast
and worked on , books. They
made dinner and waited for it
to cook over' the fire. In the
afternoori Mrs. Nethery
brought a treat, a popsicle, a
can of pop and some water-
melon. Then it was time to go
•
over, Brussels competing.
Trebles were played on all
1.0 greens.
