The former Ball Auctions building has been a persistent headache to village council since March of 1978 when it decided to go . ahead with a court injunction to tear down both it and the Export Packers building. On March 22 of that same year, the roof of the Ball Auctions building collapsed under a load of wet snow and a side wall also fell. In June of 1978, council met with B.M. Ross and Associates, Goderich engineers who told them that both the Export Packers and Ball Auctions buildings were beyond repair. By September of that year, the building fell down of its own accord, but the mess it created was never removed. In April of this year, council had a request from a citizen asking if they could do ' something to get the property cleaned up and council decided to write 'a letter to the current owners asking them to get the property in a respectable condition. Now the Ray Hallahan Construction Company of Blyth is busily clearing up the debris which is supposed to be taken away in trucks by the John Cox Company in Winghatn. The former Ball Auctions building was an old building which had many owners and different uses over the years. Owners included Dr. Jim Anderson and his brother Alec who ran a livery stable there; Earl and Bill Somers who also ran a livery barn and rented out horses and cutters. The livery then became the property of Jack. Galbraith who later sold it to George Bridge who ran an implement company. The implement company then became Bauer's implement company. When the building was sold to Ned Rutledge, he used it for auction sales ,which were held every Friday night. Then it became the Ball Auctions building which closed down about four years ago. According to the assessment milt, the building's most recent owners are, Robert Campbell and John Goodall, Short Shots by Evelyn Kennedy It takes a heap o' livin' in a house to make it home, A heap o' sun and shadder, an' ye sometimes have t' roam More ye 'really 'preciate the things ye left Please turn to page 16 BRUSSELS ONTARIO A BIKE GANG IN WALTON? — These children decorated their bikes and themselves to participate in last Saturday's Parade-in Walton..
