NO, IT'S NOT A WHIPPER SNIPPER -- What
it is, is a metal detector used by Jack'.
Summerfield in his favorite hobby-searching for
coins. He 'was up at the Brussels Fairgrounds
doing some searching on Tuesday.

Jack. Summerfield of Strathroy was busy
in Brussels last week •pursuingbis favorite
hobby--looking for coins.
Mr. Summerfield was recently profiled
in a magazine called Seven Days, which is
published every week by the Strathroy Age
Dispatch. •
According to that magazine, "Jack j will
have his metal detector in hand and a set of
earphones wrapped around his head. He'll
be concentrating on the steady hum of the
detector which indicates metal objects
hidden in the ground under his own two
feet. An object may prove to be only a
bottle cap or a piece of jewelery or a coin
valued at thousands of dollars."
He' purchased his first metal detector
about one and a half years ago and started
coin hunting--or coin shooting as it's'
commonly called, with his son Leslie. His.
wife Mary began going out a few times as
well, until she got the
The Summerfields •have just returned
from a two:month holiday in California and
Florida where they found a total of 1,100
`coins in addition to 'some other relics and
jewelery.
Mr. Summerfield, uses geograpby and
history to decide where to hunt by. using'
historical atlases as a means of locating
former meeting and gathering-places of
people.
He prefers to find only money but has
also discovered such items as keys, tokens,
medals, dog tags, locks, watches, toys,
; bullet casings, jewelery and old clothes
irons.
Mr. Summerfield, has; in addition to his
Canadian coins an impiessive collection of
British and American coins, all of which he
stores along with his other valuables in, a
safety deposit box for safekeeping.
'Mr. Sumtnerfield found a handful of
coins when he was searching at the
Brussels fairgrounds.
