In August of 1979, people from. Walton and the sur- rounding municipalities of Morris, Grey and McKillop attended a meeting in which they discussed the possibility of constructing some type of community centre which could house a library, wash- rooms and a food stand for the ball park. Morris and Grey Town- ships contributed $4000 to -the new building while McKillop Township contrib uted $3000. The contract for building the new recreation centre was awarded to Henry Exel whose bid of $24,995 'was the lowest tender. Now with, the help of the construction company and volunteer labor from the Walton community, the building has been. completed at a total cost of about $30,000. The 'recreation committee had $6,500 saved from previous fund-raising events and $1500 from a dance and draw held this year. They also received a community re- creation centres grant from the province all of this money will go towards the construc- tion costs of the building. The opening of the facility is being celebrated in style on Saturday,, July 19' with, a parade, a ball game between the- Walton Intermediates and the CKNX Try-Hards; opening ceremonies and dedication, pork barbecue and an Old Tyme Family Dance. extend Heartiest Congratulations, and Best Wishes to THE WALTON AREA SPORTS CLUB on the opening of their new facilities and express appreciationior the benefits which the activities of the clu b contribute to the -township.
