Many problems which af-

result from their failure to
keep `active in the outside"

them to 'community events

Our aim is to provide a
homelike' atmosphere for our
residents in which they can
change and grow and where

The aim of "Nursing
Horne Week" was to Pro'
mote public awareness about
Nursing Homes and their
Residents. Nursing Homes
are often thought of, and
unjustly so • as places where
elderly individuals line the
walls and sit for h9urs star-
ing into space and where the
future is a mixture of bore-
dont , and frustration. Al-
though this used to be a
common sight, administrat-
ors and staff have :come to ,
realize that this need not
• be--it is neither desirable nor'!
necessary.
Change is a basic phenom-,
enon of life and everyone is
Horne care and philosophies
have altered dramatically
over the years and along with
them we haVe 'seen many
positive changes in our Nur-
sing Home eisiclonti: The
modern-day elderly, who re-
side in a Nursing Home for
one reason or another, gen-
erally , find . concerned' staff
and administrative personnel
who spend considerable time
and, effort taking advantage
of education available to
them through. seminars, in-
service training or corres-
pondence courses, The avail-
ability of education services
in this 'particular field• is a
comparatively recent innov-
'ation and the big winner is
the resident.
At Callander our basic
philosophY is that "being old
is not the, sameas being ill."
