ALLAN MCCALL 887-6677 The Boundary & 17th Unit met Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Harvey Craig with 9 ladies present. Mrs. H. Craig opened with a poem, "Look to your life". Mrs. Roy Williamson read the scripture. Mrs. Craig read a poem, "When God created Fathers" and "God's Gift." Mrs. R. Williamson closed the devotions with prayer. Mrs. Graeme Craig presided for the business. Mrs. Helen Williamson read the minutes followed by Mrs. Barry Hoegy giving the treasurer's report and Mrs. Hugh Johnson the misc. ellaneous fund. Collection and copper money was received. The unit is in charge of flowers in July. , Plans were made for a shower for Miss Joyce McCallum on July 25. Announcements were given oat for the Communion next Sunday and the induction service for 'Rev. Charles Swann on Thursday, July 3 with our unit responsible for the washing of cups. The up coming Vacation Bible School was mentioned. There will be a meeting in July. SUNDAY SCHOOL PROMOTION SUNDAY The choir of 30 from the Midwestern Regional Centre in Palmerston were present on Sunday morning at Duffs United Church. They took part with two solos and an anthem. Cathy Lawless was the director of music and Margie McCutcheon, volunteer pianist for the special choir. Refv. J.A. Patterson, Chaplain from the Mid- western Regional Centre was guest minister and spoke on "God's time to expand the mind". There was a fairly large attendance at the service when Mrs, Ron Bennett called out the children's na mes for the Sunday School promotion and the teachers of each class pre- sented their awards and seals to their pupils.. JOE WALKER 357.3558 A birthday party at Callander Nursing Home, Brussels was sponsored by the Bluevale Institute, June 11, as part of the WI's regular meeting. Mrs. Bert Garniss congratu!ated those having birthdays and was in charge of the program with Mrs. Carl .Johnston at the piano for a musical contest and singsong. Cheryl and Lee- Ann Nicholson, accompanied by their mother, Mrs. Ross Nicholson, favoured the group with several tap dance numbers. More toes were tapping as Johnny Thompson played old-time favourites as on his mouth organ. Mrs. Nicholson sang two solos and led a sing-a-long concluding with "Happy Birthday". Mrs. de Vos then present- term are Susan Carter, Michael and Shantion Craig, Andrea .Gingerich, Cindy McCallum, Randy and Laurie McClure, Greg Fritz and Sharon Gcxlkin. Our thanks to. Dianne Gedkin who was. a faithful dedicated teacher for the past few years and who is going onto higher education in the fall. Those promoted to Kindergarten with Dorothy Sholdice are Danny Taylor and. Greg Clark. Any volunteers for assistants would be welcome to help Dorothy every other month. Pupils remaining in primary are Tracey Bennett, Nancy Godkin, Steven Fritz, Manny Taylor, Tonia McClure, Brian Love, Kelly Workman and Sherry Harburn. ed the gifts. Lunch was served and a very enjoyable time was spent , with the residents. - Mrs. Jack Nicholson of Jamestown then welcomed the WI members to her home for their meeting. Mrs. Garniss read a tribute to all nurses, especially those caring for the aged and terminally ill. Reporting on the cancer drive, Mrs. Mathers stated that Bluevale and area contributed $1,050, the largest amount ever collected. An appeal was read re- questing drivers for the Stroke Club and the Centre for the Homebound. The WI entry in the poster contest for the Year of the Child, constructed' by Mrs. Perry, was on display, also letters of thanks ffom the ukelele band for inviting them to help at Brookhaven. Pupils promoted to Juniors with Joyce Van Vliet as teacher are: Heather McGavin, Glenda Carter, Leslie Hudie, Jim Clark and Sherrie Hoegy. Pupils remaining in Junior class are: Donna Godkm, Richard Love, Craig Hack- well, Kim Fritz, Benny Hoegy, Blaine Marks, Randy Taylor, Steven Taylor, Amy Workman, Chris cardiner and Chris Harburn. Pupils. promoted to intermediate,class are; Susie Hickson, Sandra Sholdice, .Joyanne Van Vliet, Jeff McGavin, 'Cheryl Smith and ,Terry Taylor. This responsi- bility was unanimously accepted. Miss Kathy Snell is being sponsored as an entrant in- the. Misg Howick Fair contest. The catering committee for the. Turnberry Central School graduation banquet will. he Mrs. Stamper, Mrs. de Vos, Mrs. Edgar, Mrs. Simmons and Mrs. Mathers. Smith and Blaine Hackwell. The Sunday School pupils sang two numbers during the service, "You light up my life" and "Happiness Is' , , The, Intermediate .boys took up the collection. The choir finished up the service with' a hymn sing and action, song,, with the whole congregation taking‘part. Following the service lunch was served in the basement, preparedF by the unit ladies of the church. On behalf of the congre- gation a presentation of a pen set and a purse of money was presented to Rev. Ed Baker. Keith Wilbee read the address and Allan Searle made the presentation. Rev. Drivers' were: Pauline Bennett, Mildred Traviss, Leona McDonald and Helen Craig. The tour began at the Genesco Shoe Factory . in Seaforth where the guide told members about 150 people work at the plant and turn out 1750 pair of shoes a day, all men's shoes. It proved very interesting to watch each step and the way shoes are put together. The group then drove to Dashwood where they were guests of A.R.C. Industries and were served dinner, prior to Harry Stewart giving a slide presentation- and a tour of their building and activities. This industry is operated by the handicapped. They ed. They also have the Huron Hope Nursery and the South Huron Bakery at the A.R.C. Industries, Dashwood. Members then started back home, stopping at the Van Egmond House, Egmondville which presents a reminder of the past. Then on to the Huron Expositor where Susan White gave members a tour of the plant, telling them the important tasks in putting a paper together on the time schedule.
