This year's graduating class consists of in the front row from left Donna Elliott, Kellie Stephenson, Brenda Richmond, Darlene Freeman, Kim Exel, Mariann Scott, June Adams and Kim Stephenson. In the second row are: Darrin Watts, Michelle Vader, Sandy Huether, Colleen Bridge, Karen McCutcheon, Faye Drake; Gwen Cousins, Waneta Jacobs, Principal Ken Scott. Three local area students, are taking part in a youth employment program this summer which studies the transportation needs for senior and the handicapped in Huron County. Joan Huether of Brussels, • Janice Dunbar of Belgrave and Debbie Hunking of BY ELISABETH OTTO The graduation banquet of the East Wawanosh Public School's Grade 8 class was held on Friday, June 20th in the Women's Institute Hall in Belgrave. . The members of the grad- tutting class were Danny Beck, Bonnie Burchill, Paul Currie, Willie Dowson, Dar- ten Evans, Timothy Goddard Bradley Graven, Dianne Hanna, Jennie Hopper, Dianne Nethery, Elisabeth Otto, Anne Procter, Bradley Shobbrook, Johanna Van- Camp, Tony Vienneau, Andrew Walsh and Joanne Wood. Murray Cardiff, member of parliament for Huron- ' Bruce has been appointed to a special committee of the House of Commons to look into the feasibility of a Nat- ional Trading. Corporation and; report to Parliament by December 19th. The Special Committee is one of six that have been set up since Parliament opened in April. The committee wil act as a Parliamentary Task. Force composed of seven Parlia- mentarians representing all the parties in the House of Commons. Mr. Cardiff is one of dime Opposition members appointed to the conmiittee., Auburn began the study on May 26 and will be' working out the Home Care office in Clinton till September 5. The study, Action for Wheels which is sponsored by the Huron County Community Services Council requires contacting church, volunteer and other service clubs or organizations within The program began with the welcome and then the introduction of the head table, which was followed by the introduction of .the grad- uates. Grace was said by John Currie. Mr. Chaulk then played a solo on the piano,' and Anne Procter‘ thanked the Women's Institute for the meal. John Elliott of the Huron County Board of Edu- cation gave a small speech which was followed by "Peter Piper" played by Elisabeth Otto. The presentations were then made by Mr. Lisle. Surveys of small towns and villages like Brussels, Blyth, Seaforth, Wingham, Belgrave and Whitechurch have been completed and according to Janice it is obvious that a more organized system of transportation is needed.- The students have found. Walsh won the academic awards. The Citizenship awards went to Dianne Hanna and Willie Dowson. Johanna VanCamp and Brad Shobbrook were given the congeniality awards. The certificate seals were won by Bonnie Burchill and Dianne Nethery. After this the choir sang "Yesterday" and "For All We Know". Mr. Lisle introduced the guest speaker, Jack Kopas, who gave a very educational speech. Johanna Van Camp that there's not even a taxi in Brussels and while Seaforth does have such a service, the seniors felt there should 'be more transportation that just one taxi. Blyth has its own type of transportation set up with five volunteers who will drive the seniors to their chosen destination. expressed her appreciation for his speech. The final numbers of the evening were two piano solos "Music Box Dancer" and "The Enter- tainer"' by Joanne Wood. Some of the class went back to the school for a dance which lasted until 10:30 p.m. The students are now studying the southern part of Huron County. The second half of the program will be spent setting, up a self-supporting model in communities where a new system is required and where there is a need, the students are going to try and set up , transportation with the co- operation of the senior citizens and other groups. The approximate date for this part of the program has been set for July 1. Any residents with comments, questions or suggestions for the program can contact the Huron County Health Unit, 105 Shipley St. Clinton in care of Action for Wheels. Even though Blyth does have a form of transportation for its senior citizens, *it doesn't have anything for the disadvantaged or youth under 16 who have no means of getting around according to Janice, who is the project manager on the study.. In three of four weeks the students will be coming back to each individual area and will try and set up public information meetings in those places to discuss possible means of transport- ;ation.
