The cold winds do blow--and blow. Frost
nips at the gardeners' newly peeped up
plants--and this the second week in June!
Where did the sun-kissed warm breezes go?
What has become of the long hot summers
we used to enjoy? We should just be grateful
that the wind driven flames of the Northern
Ontario forest fires, . and the volcanic
eruptions of the U:S. did not drive,„„ris from
our 'homes. No matter what we complain
about there is, indeed,• much we should be
thankful for:

Bob Black, the Morris Township Hydroponic
farmer, brought just such a specimen to the
office of the Brussels Pcist one day last week.
It, was luscious looking. It was , hard to
restrain the impulse to lean over the connter
and take a bite out of it.

A -Laotian fainily has arrived in Brussels
and is now living in the home once occupied
by Mrs. Elsie Shaw.
The Larprom family consists of Suvit and
Osoth his wife and children Somekhamc,
Ratsamy, IStivany I Marivan and Phailop.
Mr. Larprom told some members of the
orientation committee that he lived in a two
storey home in Laos but that the
Communists had taken it over. He worked in
an office. five days a week and on the
weekend he had to cut down trees for the
Communists: The family escaped on a boat
and crossed the river into Thailand where
they spent six months in a refugee camp
Thirteen years ago George Michie
became Morris Township treasurer when
Stewart Procter was reeve. But as of June
16 this year his resignation from the job
will become effective and his daughter-in-
law Nancy Michie will' be adding his duties
to her present job as clerk of the township.
The one thing that Mr. Michic notices
has changed in the job from 1967 until now
is the amount of extra red tape involved.
For one thing, he wasn't figuring pension
and unemployment amounts in payroll
then.

There was a notable silence when the
auctioneer called for bids on the Cranbrook
General Store on Saturday and so far now,
the future of the store remains uncertain.
The sign proclaiming what has existed
there since 1895 no longer adorns the
building and inside the store the shelving
was taken out after the bidding ceased on
Saturday.

and. Mr, and Mrs Siegfried Schwark
hadn't made any plans for the building after
the auction sale was over on. Saturday,
because as Mrs. Chubb said, it was too soon
to make a decision.

When asked about life in the Thailand
camp, Mr. Larprom said it was hard for them
and described their life as "full of darkness
and p overty."
He added that they had to have money
from outside in order to get out of the camp.
In an interview, Mr. Larprom said the
people in Brussels had been very nice and
very good and given them a lot of food.
"They give to us, but I have nothing to
give to them," he said.
Mr. Larprom is also very interested in
finding a job here.

Grey gives $4000
Grey Township council decided to give a
grant of $4000 to the Walton Area Sports
Club for the new recreational facility in
Walton, when it met in regular council
session Monday.
Council gave authorizaiton to' the road
superintendent to buy a weed sprayer,
passed a by-la‘V under the tile drainage act
for $8,000 and passed another by-law to
rezone part of Lot 35, Concession 10 to
agricultural commercial as a condition of
severance.
Building permits Were issued to Leona
Snyder for a liquid manure tank, Barry
Hoegy for a back entrance to a woodshed
and Gary Bennett for siding and new roof
and minor repairs; W. Jim Armstrong; an
airplane hangar; Bill Mann, a house trailer;
Oakshade Farms Ltd. addition to, barn; Gary
and Sharon Evans, a demolition to woodshed
and storage area to build a utility' room and
storage Area; Rudy Arsenov, addition to
existing' barn; Gerhard Albrecht, machine
storage shed and Mark Gropp, a new house.
Post a Canadian winner
The Brussels Post has won an awardin the
Canadian Community Newspaper
competition for a picture taken by Pat
Langlois.
The picture which received third prize
across Canada in the paper's circulation
class 'was one of 16 month old Bradley
Ramsey. of Blyth who was helping to water
some cattle at the Belgrave, Blyth and
Brussels School Fair.'

More red tape now
