Norton, has announced the allocation of 547,387 for Home Support Services to the Elderly in Huron County for 1980/81. "This is in keeping with my Ministry's continuing commitment to improve ser- vices for senior citizens through out the province," the Minister said. The program results from the conviction that senior citizens should be provided with the support services they require to enable them to continue living in their own homes, and that seniors should have the opportunity to participate as fully as .possible in the life of the community. . The Huron Day Centre for the Homebound in Clinton, will receive a grant of up to $29,100 for 1980/81 to assist it in, continuing to provide a day program for elderly persons. The program oper- ates from Huronview Home receive up to one-half of their program's approved budget. The remaining costs must be met by voluntary donations, user fees or municipal grants: As well as supporting existing programs, the allo- cations will, help develop new community-based services. The Ministry policy strongly favours involvement of vol unteers• to help provide services, whenever approp- riate. These funds are part Of the Ministry's total budget of $3,034,800 thii fiscal year for Home Support Service. This represents an increase of $2 million in this fiscal year, in the government's commit- ment to Home Support Service. Summer school offered Three agricultural courses at the University of Guelph's Summer Campus vacation program will appeal to hobbyists and part-time far- mers. Apiculture, sheep and goats and horse nutrition are all intensive one-week courses taught by specialists. - Whether the aim is to establish a new farming sideline or simply produce some honey for the family, the apiculture course with Professor Maurice Smith provides all the basics on the biology of the honey bee, its behaviour and management. Topics which will be covered at the University's apiary include procesSing honey, I control of diseases, equip- ment, crop pollination, pests and pesticides, preparing colonies, queen rearing and marketing of honey and wax. Since Summer Campus has courses, workshops and recreation for all ages and interests, friends or other family members may accom- pany agriculturists, but choose to study completely different subjects. This sum- mer 23 other courses for adults are being offered. These include conversational French, calligraphy, solar energy, writing, the nature of disease, flower arranging, personal ''imputing and workshops applied psych- ology. To provide youngsters with a lively combination of fun and learning, the youth program offers many choices. Young science buffs can learn about man, nature or computers. Workshops in acting, journalism and art appeal to more creative types. Sports, games and a daily swim are an integral part of all youth programs. , A community barbecue, family film night and squash and tennis for adults are extra activities which help make Summer Campus an enjoyable vacation.. This year the program runs for two weeks from July 7. Since different courses are offered on each of the weeks, some people attend both sessions, Course costs begin at $25 for children and $35 for adults.
