CORN EMERGENCE
Early planted corn should
have sprouted and emerged.
Unfortunately cool weather
persisted during early May.
This would delay the early
planted corn. With warmer
weather and moisture, corn
should now emerge. There
could be problems with poor
v,ermination, seed maggots
and wirewortil: If you suspect
your stand is light check (1)
seeding rate first (2) Plant
stand.
Do several plant,. popul-
ation counts on 1/1000th of
an acre. Multiply the average
count by 1000 to arrive at the
population per acre. A row
length of 17'5" in 30" rows
represent 1/1000 of an acre,
16'4" for 32" rows, and
14'6" for 36" rows.
If stands are still 18,000 or
better, yields should be
reasonably good. Stands
below 15,000 may warrant
replanting with a shorter day
variety.

pesticides include rootworm
insecticides, atrazine, bladex
low volatide amines, etc.
Storage signs are available
at the agricultural office in
Clinton.
When rinsing pesticide
containers, a triple rinse of
emulsifiable (EC) pesticides
leaves less than .2% of the
pesticide in the container.
These containers would be
clean enough to dispose of in
any landfill site. Containers
holding flowable liquids
when triple rinsed have still
contained as much as .1% of
the pesticide toxicant.
