Edward Knechtel started his.
Wholesale Grocery Business
in 1930. At first he bought
sausages and a cheese from
the farmers and sold thein to
retail grocers itibaSic ally the

obtained a franchise to sell
Chateau Cheese and Hell-.
man's Mayonnaise. Two
years later, the first ware-
house was built. In 1947, the
"Cheese Man" (as everyone
called him), made two major'
decisions - he gave up the
franchise lines and took his
son, Cianson, into the
business as a partner.
In 1954, a new 7,200
square foot warehouse was
built on the present location,
to better service the ex-
panding business. Twelve
years later another 45,000
square feet was added, thus
enabling Knechtels to con-.
vince the last of the big
companies to sell to them:
Another 8,000 feet was again
added in 1969
Knechtels became the
major wholesale supplier to
the L. & M, Stores, in 1965.

The "K" Knechtel Food
Association Stores plan was
instituted in 1975 and :has
progressed to twenty-two
locations. The Company is
now expanding it's territory
and once again its ware-
