s are the result of early planning
Qur Roman ancestors had
several bridal customs that have '
lingered through centuries of
celebration and, ritual. For one,
they tossed a torch at the end of
the ceremony.
The, rench revised this in th
I300s to a safer bouquet of
flowers, with the person catch-;
ing them destined to marry next.
The Romans gave us the wed-
ding veil, believing it was a pro,
tection from evil spirits. Their
wedding cakes were water, bar-
ley, flour and salt, then the ne-
cessities of life. ,
As to June brides, these an-
cients believed that the sixth
'month, named for Juno, God-
dess of marriage, was the most
propitious time to wed:
There are countless aspects
to the perfect wedding that
takes months of planning: the
color scheme, tlie clothes, the
flowers, the guest list—details
such as the reception and the
music. All exciting and all , need-
ing considerable planning.
The focal point at that June,,pr
indeed, that January wedding is
the bride herself. All eyes are on
her, on this, her most special day,
As lovely as she will ever be,
she takes the right preparation
and follows .a few useful, beauty
tips. The experts at Revlon have
some well chosen tips to help
make all beautiful dreams come
true.
Two immediate steps every
bride should take as early as pos-
sible are plain common sense.
The first is to establish, the one'
iragrance that will be her special
signature.
When she walks down that
aisle and into her groom's life
forever, it wouldn't do to sud-
denly surprise him with some
exotic perfume—the fragrance
he will always associate with,
life's finest moments should .be
subtly expressive of his. bride.
Jont ue is a.lovely` choice=
romantic and endearing, it con-
veys a tioeless message of
special caring and fetninine
warirrith.
The second step recom-
mended is to take into account,
along with tfie bridal gown and,
flowers, exactly how the bride's,
hair and make-up will complete
the picture of perfection.
Hair niay need to grow during
the coming months, and the'
color may need subtle changing
or brightening. Walking down
the aisle with a dramatically
long auburn hair-do is fine un-
less the bride had short brown
hair only the day before!
All the experts agree that the
classic bride has a subtle make-
up—the merest hint of hardness,
or too much brightness, is not
desired:
The time to begin learning
proper make-up application is
during these planning Stages,
not at the last minute.
Last, but hardly least, skin
care is an, ongoing concern for
all; for the bride it is especially
necessary to evolve a daily rou-
tine of skin maintenance that
makes the face glow and shine
with health and beauty.

WHAT THE REVLON EXPERTS SAY ABOUT BRIDAL MAKE-UP:
• Be as natural as possible. Do not over-do make-up.
• As the gown is selected, think in terms of hair and face as well.
• A harmony of colors is essential to a beautiful wedding. Flowers, maids'
dresses, even the colors of the church or hall; should influence your selection
of nail color and make-up color highlights.
• Colors should be muted, soft or veiled. Flat tones are best. Frosted shades
or whites create glare and should be avoided.
• Sharp contrasts are to be avoided and shine should be only on lips with a
hint at the cheeks. (Cheek, color is best applied under foundation.)
• The foundation should be matte or semi-matte, easiest with a sheer, water-
based foundation (match skin tone of neck for color). Several shades darker
can be a beautiful emphasis above eyes.,
• Eyes should be emphasized with nature' tones. No harsh colors, but a touch
Of blue shadow out of the corner of the eye.
• Curl eyelashes for larger eyes and mascara applied afterwards—tips first,
then the entire lash.
• Lip pencils in soft, natural shades fill in lips. Slightly brighter is only appro.
priate for evening weddings.
•. Finishing touch is the lightest brush with powder, very fine, translucent.
• Apply perfume to ankles as well as the pulse points—the swirl of skirt will
carry the scent down the aisle.
