BY JAMS ACHESON It is important to provide a wide range of meaningful activities for the elderly and also for them to remain in close contact with community events. This preserves their sense of belonging. The best wayaf preventing the nursing home resident from feeling isolated is by continued con- tact with active members of the immediate and surround- ing areas. The ultimate goal of those who work in the field of geriatrics is to •have their nursing home residents meld with the• community so that they are not thought of as different, but merely • older. Their social needs are the same as those of every other age group, but they are often unable to get out on their own to participate in_ events that appeal to them. Thus, events and activities often need to be modified in order for the elderly nursing , home resident to -be able to fu4 participate in ways which are the most satisfying for them. We, at Callander, • feel that our goal of ".com- munity oneness" is getting closer all the'time. We r "OM WM= mon mina\ w• ° Barn Cleaners J ° Bunk Feeders ° Stabling Donald G. Ives R.
