It is important to provide a
wide range of meaningful
activities for the elderly and
also for them to remain in
close contact with community
events. This preserves their
sense of belonging. The best
wayaf preventing the nursing
home resident from feeling
isolated is by continued con-
tact with active members of
the immediate and surround-
ing areas. The ultimate goal
of those who work in the field
of geriatrics is to •have their
nursing home residents meld
with the• community so that
they are not thought of as
different, but merely • older.
Their social needs are the
same as those of every other
age group, but they are
often unable to get out on
their own to participate in_
events that appeal to them.
Thus, events and activities
often need to be modified in
order for the elderly nursing ,
home resident to -be able to
fu4 participate in ways
which are the most satisfying
for them. We, at Callander, •
feel that our goal of ".com-
munity oneness" is getting
closer all the'time. We

On Easter Monday, Mrs.
Chris TenPas arid her six
children presented a talk
about Easter which. was fol-
lowed by the singing of some
inspirational songs. Then
they talked and Visited : with
all the residents. Everyone
enjoyed the program and
especially the children. The
Brussels Majestic Institute
made some delightful Easter
decorations, which were
placed on the dining room
tables. They also made some
tray decorations for those
residents who are unable to
come to the dining room for*
their meals. The decorationS
added a festive touch to the
Nursing Home.
Callander's April Bingo
Champion is Mrs. Elsie Shaw
and Mr. Charles Buck won
the Bowling Trophy.
On April 28th the ladies
from the BrusselS Legion,
Auxiliary were4'WCaljaiider ,
to help Mrs. Olive • Shera,
Mr. Jack Thynne; Mrs. 'Bea-
trice Cardiff and Mrs. Eliza-
beth Thompson celebrate
their April birthdays. The
ladies visited with the resi-
dents before serving cake
and ice cream to everyone.
Everyone enjoyed the Legion
ladies as many know these
ladies personally. While they
presented the birthday gifts,
Charles Buck played some
tunes on his accordion. The
party was enjoyed by every-
one.
On the 13th of April, Rev.
LeDrew offered communion
to the staff and residents.
These services are apprecia-
ted by those who are unable
to attend regular church
services. On the 25th of April,
the Brussels Mennonite Fel-
lowship group presented a
short worship service. Be-
cause many of Callander's
people are basically home-
bound, they are grateful that
this type of program is
available to them.
The staff' and Residents
would like to welcome Mrs: .
Orvilla, McCutcheon to Cal-
lander. , •
h, Peg Cudmore, Ida Evans,
and Elinor Hemingway have
been spending considerable
time here since Christmas
helping the residents do
crafts. As well as being fun
and instructive, "craft days"
have been a very pleasant
and informal social occasion
for those residents involved
in the program. To -show his
appreciation, My. Roger
Keay, Callander's \ Adminis-
trator, presented ihe Craft
Ladies with Ontario 'Nursing
Home Volunteer name tags.
The craft program is going
very well and the residents
are making some interesting
and uniqueltems.
On April 30th, we were

On. May 15th, a "Spring
Fashion Show" will be held
at Callander at 1:30 p.m. The
Public is cordially invited to
attend to see the latest
fashions which will be model-

same day, but even if you
are not planning to buy,
