The Theme, "Children and
Youth" was followed in the
spring Thank offering service
when the members and their
guests met to hear Mr. Don
Keillor, director of the' Huron
centre for children and
youth, at Clinton, Mr.
Keillor, has had experience -
in elernentary seheol
teaching, in work in special
education, and was forrnerly
on the faculty of Education at
York University.
The Huron Centre gives
counselling and assistance -to
families who are.having pro-
blems, to help families to
stay together and live in
harmony and good relation,:
ships one with another, and
special emphasis on children
and youth. The centre has a
staff of six p-rofessional
people who work long hours
to help smooth out problems
rising , from , educational
needs.
Mr. K-eilior remarked that
even when people do their
best as far as they know
things go, wrong and they
need a new view of things for
an outsider. Families may be
referred' by doctors,
teachers, or public health
nurses and it is. most desir-
able to have the whole family
come.
He commented that in
some instances parents are
wanting their children to
grow up too fast. It is alright
to be a child and act as a
child and later on stressed the
need for commendation and
praise for our children and
youth, and the need
to helpthe child to see him-
self capable of doing
something worth' while or
being somebody.worth while.
Mr. Keillor was introduced
by Mrs. Clifton Coulter,
thanked by Mrs. Robert
Strong, and presented with a
gift. The meeting was in
charge of the committee for
Christian development and
the devotional period -was in
charge of Mrs. Clifton
Coulter assisted by Mrs.
Melvin Greig, while Mrs.
Sheldon Mann presided at
the organ. A lovely duet.
"Come to the,Waters" was
sung by Mrs. Ernest Fellows
and Mrs. Raymond Gowdy.
The offering' was received
by Mrs. Wesley Ball, Mrs.
James Schefter, Mrs. Wayne
Stewart. and Mrs. Vincent
Petten.
Following the meeting a
social half hour was enjoyed
in the lower church hall.
During this time, thanks was
expressed by representatives
of guests from neighbouring
churches who shared the
evening with the' Gorrie
United Church Women.
