-the rescue Of their six diplomats in Iran. This.
time it's the country of Holland saying thank
yooto the war veterans who helped liberate
the Dutch from GerMan forces 35 years ago.
Morris ToWnShip reeve Bill Elston and his
wife Isabel are just two of the 1500
Canadians planning to attend some special
days in Holland in honor of the Canadians.
Mr. Elston was an artillery man in the .first
division and was stationed in Holland and
y anks
Italy tor two. years.
Some highlights of the trip include, on
May 5? a formup in 'front of the Military
barracks in Groesbeckswes and then a
parade' to. Nijmegen where 35 maple trees
will be planted in, commemoratio4gremony
at the Canadian Cemetery in Groesbeckswes
will follow.
Princess Margariet of %Aland will take
the salute and two RCMP constables will act
as markers at the saluting base. Chairman
Major-General (retired) Chris Vokes will be
with Princess, on: the• platforM along with
many other dignitaries including the Chair-
man of the Thank You Canada .committee, ,
Part of the Netherlands 'We Do Remember
Committee which •invited the. Canadians to
the celebrations. The celebrations were
advertised through the • Legion oiagazine.
Mr. and Mrs. Elston left on . April 28 and
like other Canadian veterans,, will be guests
in a Dutch home While in Holland.
From"there„ the Elstoris plan to spend two
weeks in Italy and while in both' countries,
Mr. Elston plans to visit;the places where he
was stationed thewar: The Elstons plan to
stay until May 23..- •
Walter and Jean Bewley of Walton will
also ' attend the ceremonies, and then take
one Of the Officially planned tours through
Germany, Sw, itzerland, France and
Belgium. • .
-This is the first time Holland has had such
a celebration for the Canadians and it will be,
the first time Mr.. Elston has 'returned since•
he was stationed there.
