the wood' have— played a
major / part in Lions Club
projects and the Brussels
Lions Club .first started its,
International Exchange
program in 1974..
That exchange proved to,,
be so successful in, fact that
five years later, the . student
returned to pay her 'former
hosts .and Brussels itself a
visit. The student's name
was Chesna Dickenson and
she was from Olton Texas.
• The Wednesday May 9, 1979
edition of the Post records
her second visit to the area:
Brussels promotes itself as
the friendliest village in
Huron County and Chesna
Sullivan 'of Olton, Texas is
one person' who must haye
thought so as she paid a
return visit'to the village on
Tuesday. „
It was in 1974 that Chesna,
then Chesna Dickenson, paid.
a 'visit to Brussels as part, of
the Lions. Club Exchange
program, fact she was
Brussels very first exchange
student.
On Tuesday, Chesna paid
a visit to the Brussels Post
and re-visited the people she
stayed with, when she was
here the first time = Mr. and
Mrs. Jim Johnston of
fielgrave and. Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Pearson of Brussels,
• There have been a few
changes in her life since
1974. Back then she was 17
years old and went by the
name of Chesna Dickenson.
Her new title is Ms. Bryan
Sullivan. In 1974 she was
also planning on entering
drama and psychology 'at
Hardin-Simmons University
in Abilene.
Now she is an instructor at
the Lubbock, Texas
technological University
where she teaches
communications. She had to
deliver a paper in.
Philadelphia so she phoned
the,,Pearsons and Johnstons
from Texas and said she and
her husband would, be
coming to Brussels.
. The Lions Club has con-
tinued to carry on with the
Interantional Exchanges
including ' last- year when
three Brussels area girls took
part. Heather Wilson went to
Jackson, Mississippi,
Darlene jtaynard to Finland
and Mary Ann Beinard went
to Texas.
•
The students who came to
Brussels from other
countries included Elizabeth
Back from Espo yin the south
of Finland and Donald Lindo
from Savanna-La-Mar in
Jamaica.
