Henry Exel was awarded the ''contract. for ,building the
Walton Community Centre when the people of Walton
held a public meeting on Wednesday night. •
• - Exel's bid of $24,99$ was the lowest tendered, Out
of 14 firms invited,to tender, five replied and they included
Mr. Exel, Stevenson Contracting of Brussels, Huron
Structures of Brussels, Smith Construction of Seaforth and
Goole Building Supplies.
Also at the meeting one woman -there noted that the
Seaforth fire department was calling on tenders for one of
its old fire trucks and that maybe Walton should consider
putting tenders on it since they didn't have fire protection
within five miles.

We have long been aware of cattle
rustling. Now a new kind of rustler has come
on the scene. Wood rustlers! Seeking to
economize on their own fuel costs, or profit
by selling to others, this new born breed is
ruthlessly chopping down valuable trees.
Wood that should be used for fine furniture
will instead go up in smoke from Someone's
stove or 'fireplace. What a foolish waste.
These greedy rustlers probably cut down
these trees in ignorance of their true value.

Hate, what an ugly word, and an even
uglier emotion. How easy to exclairn. "I hate
him, or her." It is not really meant. It is
natural, that there are Some people we do not
particularly like, but, hate them, no. Hate is
as a festering sore that never heals. It
poisons your life, 'destroys friendships. It
ruins your personality, The hate you nourish
in your being is revealed in the cold of your
eyes and the unconscious bitter twist of your

Be prepared to pay more for butter and
,some dairy products. It has been reported
that prices for these will likely rise early in
April and the price of milk also in
mid-summer. Dairy farmers are not
begrudged a fair profit but some of us may
have to switch to margarine instead of butter
and use less milk.

Huron County Council approved their
1980 budget of $9 million at their March
session on Thursday. The budget represents
a 7 percent increase over last year and total
expenditures have increased $841,125 or 9
per cent.
This year's increase means total
expenditures have increased 48 per cent
since 1975. In the same period the total
taxable assessment has increased 14 percent
and the province's share, has increased 40
percent.
The 26 municipalities in the county will
contribute $2.2 million whereas last year
they contribUted $2.7 million.
The municipalities will pay less this year
because the province has paid the resource
unty council
eqfialization grant-directly to the County. In
previous years 'This giant. Was-. paid 'to the
municipalities.
The county apportionment has decreased
by 0.003 percent in the mill rate since 1975
which is "an enviable record for the councils
over the period 1975 to 1980 when you
consider the rate of inflation in, those years,"
according to the county clerk-treasurer Bill
Hanly.
A major proposal in the budget was to
increase the reserve fund for working capital
by $50,000 to $900,000 in 1980.
Hardy told council there was no need to
borrow working capital in 1979 and indicated
it would be "nip and tuck" as to whether it
would be necessary to borrow in 1980.
