Huron County people
are reading more books as
the Huron County Public
Library, increased its circula:
tion in 1979. According to the
Library's annual report, of
the 28 branches in the
system the total yearly
circulation was 286,253, an
increase of 19,160 over the
same period in 1978.
The total number of
requests filled was 2,598
items, an increase of 425
over the 1978 total. Film
bookings increased 22 per
cent up to. 2,614 films
borrowed.
The revenue in the 1979
library budget totalled
3449,799. In grant money,
+iron County received a
57,000 Wintario grant for
he purchaSe of Canadian
books, and four Perth County
ownships, Wallace,
Hibbert, Blanshard and ,
fAillarton gave' grants to
iuron County for service to
Perth residents. The Huron
County. library also partici-
lated in the Wintario half-
hack program to purchase
Canadian records.
In 1979, the Property.
Committee of Huron County
Council purchased the
Pentecostal Church in
Goderich for a new library
headquarters and this will
mean increased library
service throughout the ,
county.
The Huron County library
system serves a population of
56,399 and - has 19,591
borrowers.
Some of the programs at
the libraries this year
included an Outreach pro-
gram in celebration of the
International Year of the
Child with singers, puppet
shows and magic shows
coming to the libraries
around Huron County.
William Partridge, chief
librarian, says , that some
patrons are not aware of the
Huron County Library's
service for the handicapped
which' are talking books
(books on tape for visual
handicapped) and which are
available through any of the
town and village libraries.
A list of titles is in the
library's Talking Book
catalogue. All of the branch-
's have large print books
including Westerns,
mysteries, romances and
some non-fiction. The Huron
County library is willing to
send books by mail to any
patron not able to get to any
of the library's branches.
