The Topic on Japan: The
people and their society'was
presented by Mrs. Alex
Gulutzen in the form of a
skit, assisted by Mrs.

was decided to have a St.
Patrick's Dessert Euchre
Monday March 17 at 1:15.
It was announced that
Mrs. Mildred MeTaggart
wa- ill in Seaforth Hospital
and 13ud Thompgon had re-
turned home from•Wing,ham
Hospital.
The Noble Grand thanked
all who had helped in any
way with Dessert Euchre.

After closing Lodge the
wild committee were in
charge of a .ocial time and

Goderich, who went to Japan
as a missionary from the
United Church of Canada to
teach English in a -.mall
college. After completing
language study, Rob went to
Sapporo, a city of about one
million, where he lived for
two years with a Japanese
Buddhist family, who spoke
very little English.
Rob met Keiko, a
Japanese first, year student
at the Kindergarten Training
Schbol. They came to Canada
in 1973 to be married and
Keiko 'completed her
teacher's training in 1975:
Rob Witmer and 'his wife,
Keiko, line in a modest
two-bedroom apartment in
Toronto. When Rob
completes his studies in
theology ' at Emmanuel
'College, they will return to
Japan with their two
children, Manna, who was
born in a small private
hospital in Japan And Nathan;
born in a large, hospital.

outlined the life of A yako
Miura, . 'a 22 year old
Japanese Christian novelist
who was devoted to her
work. After being ill, for 13
years, she achieved success
in .a writting competition.
Her books have found their
way into ten other
languages. . Her husband
Mitsuyo Miura had been an
enormous support during her
illness even before they were
married.
They now work together;
they go on speaking en-
gagements together, they're
interviewed together, they're
.,-en separately. They
live on the northern part of
the island.
The business part of the
meeting was conducted by
President, Mrs, „Alex
Gulutzin • opening with a
reading on "The Legend of
the first Valentine",. Minutes

leaders, Mrs. BO Coutts and
Mrs. Ian Wilbee,drew names
for this year. Thank you
cards were read from Mary

Announcements ' were
given out from the recent.
U.C,W, 'executive. The
March U.C.W. meeting will
precede the World'Day of
Prayer meeting on Friday,
March 7. The majority were
in favour of serving meals for
those who attend the Blyth '
Summer Festival. New prices ,
were set at the U.C.W.
executive, for catering,

Stewart Humphiles, Mrs.
Ray Huether and Mrs.
Howard Hackwell.
