If the intruders were look-

Hank Ten Pas
Brussels man will build in Africa
" Hank Ten Pas of Brussels' was getting
ready for a long, journey away from
home on Friday. He was getting, ready
to, leave for Afric-a.
This is the second time Hank has left
for a far-away journey like this one. In
1975, he travelled to Brazil. Both trips
were and are an effort to . help out the
Wycliffe ,Bible -Translators in the mis-
sions field. .
People helping out the Wycliffe `,Bible
Translators in other countries do so by
building such things as .':office centres
for the missionaries, the pilots who fly
the missionaries out -to the tribe?, and
the teachers for the missionaries`. child-
ren.
Hank, a Brusselr;, contractor, said :he
will be working' -in the Kaineroons in
Africa under a contractor from Switzer-
land to build an office centre there.
People from various countries help out
the Wycliffe Bible Translators. , ,
Two other men from this area, And-
rew Thalen of RR 1, Gorrie, and John
Klaus of RR 1, Fordwich will also be
making the journey to. Africa with. Hank,
but all three men will only ,be there for
three weeks working on the office build-
ing, 'then another crew will come •in and
take over'.
Some of the things Hank helped .to
do while in Brazil was to build an
airplane hangar and to build a couple of
homes where the missionaries live.
Hank says the 'misssionaries have to
live with the tribes long enough to un- •
derstand their language and then have
to write the language and teach the
natives to read it, so they will under-
stand the bible in their own language. •
Some people might think Brazil and
Africa are a long way to go to offer
voluntary labor especially since they do
have bricklayers there, but Hank says
their labor is very expensive.
He thinks that rather than giving $10
in the collection plate toward missions
this way you "get more involved and
see what it's all about. It's not only
money they need, but skilled labor, as
well."
Hank got into Wycliffe Translators
which has a chapter in Listowel through,
his church, the Christian Reformed
Church in - Listowel in 1975, but says
anybody of any denomination " can be-
come a ' member of Wycliffe Translators.
That groups gets news letters and bul-
letins back from the missionaries so
they know what the needs are.
This time somebody called from the
California headquarters of the Trans-
lators and asked Hank if, he would like
to 'go to Africa. Hank called up Andrew
Thalen, a bricklayer who works for him
and asked if he'd like to go and And-
rew called up John Klaus who works
for him and all three men were getting
ready to leave on Friday.
It's really up to the people to pick
which place they want to go to, but
Hank said John Bender, the man who
called from California ) kneW that they
could do, the type of work needed in
the Cameroons.
"Personally, I feel the need for mis-
sions. There've been other calls, but
this time I feel like I've got to go and
do this--go and take some time off and
help them out."
The men should arrive back home
around February 29 or March 1.

greet response
BY SHARON METZ
Huron County Council' decided
Thursday to increase their industrial
advertising budget to. $15,000 because of
the encouraging response to their first
advertising campaign last year.
A single advertisement placed in an
industrial magazine in November.
generated interest from 10 Canadian and
20 American companies. Development
officer Spence Cummings 'told council he
was "amazed" at the number of replies.
The ad which cost $758 was the first
major advertising done by the develop.
ment committee which had a budget for
advertising of $3,000 last year.
The magazine, Area Development Sites
and Facility Planning, is specifically
printed for companies wishing to .relocate)
s County
said Cummings.
"If one ad can draw these inquiries
from industry interested in relocating,
there is no - doubt that specialty
advertising will pay off." Cummings told
council.
"If Huron can pick up one industry
from these ads, it should prove this kind
of advertising is the type to which
Huron County should adhere to."
Council asked Cummings to follow up
the inquiries with letters in an effort to
bring the industries to the county.
Cummings said he could not release
details or the ' names of the industries
which inquired, because this information
must' remain confidential, while he
persues discussion with them.
Goderich. Reeve Eileen Palmer asked if

the names of the inthistries would be
made known to the 'municipalities. She
said Goderich would be interested in
pursuing contact with the industries if
the county's efforts were not successful
in attracting them to Huron.
Morris 'Reeve Bill Elston told council
he wanted the industries to be invited to
come to the county to look at what is
available.
