(Brussels Post Photo) 1 10 The quarters are a little smaller, and, there ` have been some other changes 'made, .but the Brussels Playschool is, back in operation again. This time the playschool will be located in the basement of the United Church and will only be open one day of the week, not three as before, One of the reasons that the playschool at St."John's Anglican church, had to be closed is that a large basement was being heated for just a small number of children. Now with `a smaller room at the United Church, there is room for about only 10 children at the, playschool• . Jane McDonald and Lynne Rowe are involved with the playschool once again, and this time the mothers of the children are also helping out. There is no registration fee, but Jane McDonald said the mothers put in $2 each to buy snacks and supplies for the school and when those run out, more money will be contributed. Although there isn't room for more than 10 children right now, Mrs. McDonald said that when' some of the children go off to kindergarten in the fall, there will probably be more room for others. • One mother a week helps out at the playschool and the school's concepts of a pre-school education and helping children to get along with others remains the same.,. "The one thing we felt was important was to get the children together; getting along with other kids," Mrs. McDonald said. Since the school is now only open one day a week, it will no longer have to worry about government licencing regulation4 either. The school opened its doors again last Wednesday and will be open every Wednes- day morning from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mrs. McDonald said, the children who have been Coming are the ones, who were good attenders at the last playschool. Business Association that not so long ago was very active? While the association has a good number of business representatives as members very few at this time bother to attend meetings or take any active part in activities. It is a shame to give up an organization that can do much to keep a community alive and flourishing. The faithful few can become discouraged when they do not get the support and help they need from .others. The next BBA meeting will be Wednesday of next week, 'February 3rd. If you have an interest in Brussels and community be at that meeting. It is certain that anyone so interested will beswelcomed. Among other business to be discussed is this year's (1980) Santa Claus Parade. It was reported that the recent 1979 parade was not as well organized as it might have been because of lack of help. Does Brussels want a Santa Claus parade? If they do more people will have to' take part in the arrangements. Do' not let the BBA die! Show your interest in your community. Attend' the meeting! ****** Do not go out and leave your doors unlocked. If you have valuable gold and silver coins, and other articles it might be wise to lock them up. The price of gold and silver these days has given some unscrup- ulous persons the idea of taking advantage of unlocked doors to help themselves to easily available gold and silver pieces. This happened recently in a nearby town where three homes were entered and gold and silver coins and a chest of silver stolen. If you happen to have gold fillings in your teeth you had better keep your mouth shut before someone seeing them takes the notion to clobber you and remove them. The chance of such things happening are not a worry to me. There are no gold or silver articles of any value in my home, or in my mouth. If I carelessly left my door unlocked anyone attempting to enter would be met at the door by . my large heavy dog jumping straight at them. It would be a stout fellow indeed who could withstand her onslaught. ****** Members of the Brussels Lions Club are busy with preparations for their, annual fun-filled Polar Daize. Among other events will be a Torch Light Parade on February 15th. You can find the recipe for making an effective Torch Light elsewilere in this issue of The Post. Look in ad "Polar Daize Torch Light Parade." Clip and save it. Following the parade you can go dancing at the Leo Dance. See Leo ad for further particulars. ' ****** The Federal Election is coming ever closer. Some folks of this particular area, regardless of their political affiliation, are going to have a hard time making up their mind who to vote for. Two popular local area young men are running, one on the Liberal ticket, the other on 'the Conservative. Both have their headquarters in Brussels. We venture to say that there will be a lot of considering done by some voters, and it will not be about which party they prefer. ****** The unusual weather we were having came to an abrupt end Tuesday of last week with cold temperatures and blustery fintries from then on. Off and on the sun has come peeking through and there has not been enough snow in this area to interfere with travelling, or causing schools closing; or cancellation of events. No one has done 'any complaining, it 'Was to be expected and certainly better than has been our lot in most past winters at this time. January is gone and hopefully an early bright spring is not far off with a long warm summer to look forward to. IM1.4.H4,1101,1,114,114,1",+111,401.
