We all care a lot about Canada.
That's why we need the New
Democrats now more than ever.
Canadians voted nut the Liberals in 1979 because we
were fed up with high prices, high taxes, high
unemployment.
They gave the Conservatives a chance. And the
Conservatives did even worse than the Liberals!
Maybe they don't care about Canada — but New
Democrats do.
Give Canada
a chance
on Feb. 18.
MAKE YOU11 VOTE coUNT!

Forums are going to be
held around southwestern
Ontairo, starting later this
month, to explain how'
market value assessment will
be altering property taxes.
Towns in this area where
the new assessment system
takes effect include Seaforth,
Mitchell, Clinton- and the
villages of Blyth, Brussels,
Hensall and Milverton.
The townships which will
be affected include Morris;
Hullett, Grey,and Hay Town-
ships.
The province is
introducing market value as-
sessment to iron out the
inequities that exist in many
municipalities. For example,
two similarly-valued home
in some areas are assessed at
different rates because pne is
older than the other.
The assessment changes.
become effective during the
taxation year in 93
municipalities, The changes
come into effect only after a
municipality requests that
the revenue ministry study
its assessment, including the
Impact the changes would
have on taxpayers and then
asks that equalization of
assessment be implemented.
A homeowner's taxes
could either increase or
decrease after market, value
assessment. Property owners
in the municipalities
mentioned above have been
receiving assessment notices
that will help' them estimate
what the changes will mean.
Anyone who feels he has
been unfairly treated in the
area of assessment can
contact' the regional assess-
ment office and has the right
to appeal to the assess-
ment review court if he is
unhappy with the changes.
The dates and locations of
the forums will be included
in the assessment notice sent
to homeowners
