Eleven 'members attended the meeting at the hoine' of Mrs. Walker. , • Mrs. Waller read Scripture from St. John, Chapter 6; verses 8,-14, followed with prayer by Mrs. Harold Grant. Collection of ;50 per member was received for the Presbyterial fee. Offering was received, 'with .prayer by Mrs. Golley followed with the treasurer's report from. Mrs. Gray. Members are 'to bring used cards to next meeting. GEORGE BROWN - ;05-3424 The.. Howick Jr.'. Women's Institute took the form, of a supper recently when 31 members and guests gathered at the Fordwich Hall. A smorgasbdrd meal was enjoyed. During the business meeting conducted 'by Liz Hargrave, Members- voted to make- a donation to the Howick 'Squirt tournament ankto supply team shirts for Howick Girls Ringette. Mrs. Jack LepPingionSpent a few days with her' daughter and Mrs. Alex. Taylor was hostess to the Gorrie Unit #2 U.C.W. Wednesday Jandary, 9 at her home. Mrs. John Strong and Mrs. G.A. Minogue were in charge of the worship service. Mrs. Minogue read a ,New Year poem "I said., to the man who stood at the gate of the year!'. Mrs. Strong introduced the guest speaker - Mrs. Ernest Fellows, who spoke informally on her work and that of. Rev. Fellows when they 'resided in Saskatoon and in NewfoUnd- land. At one assignment in Newfoundland .Rev. Fellows was in charge of a four point charge with many .miles between churches, before coming to Gorrie. She explained the resources and their school systems, with their affiliation with 'each church denomination-and she shared her experiences as a school teacher, choir leader and an organizer of many other services. U.C.W. #2 Mrs. Fellows was thanked Mrs. Strong. The roll call-Thoughts on the new year was answered by sixteen members. Visitors at the home of Mrs. Vernon ijarlow were' Mrs. ' Myrtle Smith,' Mr. Gordon Cook of Owen Sound; Society for a Christmas donation and from recipients of shut-in gifts. .The General -U.C.W. meeting was announced for Jan. 23 and the Presbyterial. in Goderich United North St. Church on. Jan. 28. The February 'meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Cecil Grainger Feb. 13 and the Theme Christian Steward- ship. ST. STEPHENS GUILD The first meeting in 1980' of the St. Stephens Guild was held at the home , of Mrs. Harry King with fifteen members in attendance. Rev. Orrence. Laramie opened the meeting with a prayer for Peace. Mrs. Laramie chose for the devotional portion, a documentary on two rather unfamiliar ladies of the New Testament Leis and Eunice. Everyone gained consider- able knowledge frOm the thorough report. Mrs. King followed with a reading. entitled "Epiphany". The business opened with A "New Years Resplution". Mrs. Ron Bennett presented the secretary's report followed by the treasurer's report given by Mrs. Merrill Fisher. Everyone is to be Congratulated on their work during the last year. A noon lunCheon will be held Jan. 17 for 11:45-1:00 in • Mr:- Homer Barlow and Jim and Miss Maureen Barlow of Listowel. Mrs. John Strong spent the weekend with yrs. A. Hutchison and Mr. Stanley. COME ALIVE CLUB, A smorgasbord supper preceded the - January meeting of the Gorrie Senior Citizens, `.'Come Alive Club' in the T9wri Hall on Tuesday withri,,good, attendance. - Mrs. Jos. Simmons read a New year's Eve Prayer. Mr. JaCk Ferguson, • president, introduced the the Church basement. Plans were started for the Craft ' Show to be held April 19 at Howick Community Centre. Rev. 0 Laramie invited everyone to a Christian Unity evening to be held in Gorrie Presbyterian Church Jan. 20 at. 8 p.tn. Rev. Laramie closed with prayer. Mrs. King served 'a lunch. PERSONALS Mr. Keith I1umphry was in charge of the service in Knox Presbyterian chnrch Sunday, with his sermon being, "Teach yo ur children, well.." MAC ENGEL 887-6645 The Ladies' Aid of Knox Church held it's annual meeting at the home of Mrs. George Smith, Brussels, with eleven members' present. The president, • Mrs. • Earl Dunn . opened the meeting with 'a thought for the New Year "breathe on me, breath of God" .was sung and all joined in the Lord's prayer Mrs. Stuart Stevenson gave a reading. • "New Year 1980". Several items needed for church cleaning were' mentioned and all agreed to purchase , them. The treasurer reported a good balance on hand from 1979. Plans were made for the February meeting of the W.M.S. which will be 'at Mrs. Stuart mcNair's. He showed pictures and gave a talk on the different phases of conservation and answered questions. Mrs. John Strong presented him, with a gift. Mrs. Lloyd Jacques gave two readings. Miss Jean Sparling gave a report of 1979 finances and Mrs. John Strong •had a quiz contest. Mr. and, Mrs. Max Bell accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Toner visited Mr. and Mrs. Thos. High scores went to Becky Runnel and Elgin Adams, and low to Mrs. Jim Hart and Clare Veitch. Mrs. Wm. Bevines had most lone hands, table prize was won by Wm. Beirnes, and Earl Dunn had the lucky cup. Harry Jacklin was winner of , the birthday prize. • The prizes were donated by • Cranbrook W.I.; McGavin's; Howard Bernard? Merwood Smith; Country Furniture and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jacklin. They will be having •another euchre on' January 25th.
