It looks like the boat people are going to be
. getting some more assistarite from the
Brussels community.
Although. `the Melville' Presbyterian
church is initiating the move, and the actual
sponsoring of a family, a general meeting is
to be held on January 11. at 8 p.m. at. the
United Church so that the sponsorship can
be on a. community basis with involvement
from other people.
The meeting is being held to , set up
different committees which could include
fundraising, housing, clothing,. furnishing,
and orientation, and Rev. Ken lnnes., said
they' want people who are interested in
helping in any way.
• Rev. Innes said at present they do not
know who the family they propose sponsor-
ing might be or where they will come from as
the application has just been put in •

Two more candidates have now officially'
tossed their hats into the ring in the race for
the., Progressive Conservative 'Party
nomination for the riding of Huron-Bruce.
On'Thursday afternoon, Murray Cardiff; a
45-ypar, old farmer froth • R.R.1,
announced he had decided ..to run for :the
nainctiati6n, Arai "'.was.-:recently- re
.elected as the chairman of the.Ontario Bean'
William Terryberry .of Brussels is one 'of
three men' charged with counts of forgery
:and uttering-forged documents in connection
with the exporting of dairy cattle to Mexico.
Mr, Terryberry and Calvin Matheson of
Atwood were charged in Stratford earlier
this month and are to appear in Perth County
:Court on January 28 to set a trial date.
Matheson is facing 29 ,counts Of forgery and
a. ttering forged comments and. Terryberry
is facing 28 counts.
A third -man, Murray Gibson ot
Wilsonville was also Charged TuesdaY,with
.fmir counts • of forgery and five counts. of
-uttering forged documents. He will appear
in Norfolk, County Court on„January. 30. to set
a trial date.••

RCMP spokesmen said that the in-
vestigation of a cattle movement has brought
a threat from the United States to cut off a
trucking route from. Canada to • Mexico if
Canadian officials cannot guarantee that
cattle are free of brucellosis and tuber-
culosis. The allegation is that blank health

Producers' Marketing Board, a post he also
held in 1979.' ' •
Mr. Cardiff said he will carry on with that
position until the' PC party nomination

against Matheson and Terryberry involved
about 1400 cattle and the charge ,against

Window smashed
More vandalism occurred in Brussels on
Friday, peceintier 21 when the front window
of; Hilts.: Food. Market was smashed in.
Floyd Hilts, who lives in the apartMent
abovse the store, said he heard the window
smashing but by the time he got ,downstairs;
the Vandals were gone.
The incident occurred at about 2:40 on
Saturday morning and the Wingham O.P.P.
Were called in at about 3.
Police estimated the damage at about $250
and are looking for an orange Chrysler
product.
Mr. Cardiff, who has campaigned for Bob
McKinley during his eleetion campaigns,
said this is the first time he, has run for a
political pay nomination.
The candidate also served on the

realtor Mason Bailey of. Blyth.
Mr.-Bailey, who operates Mason Bailey -
Real Estate Ltd. in Clinton, said most of his
political background is in farm politics: The
former dairy farmer was president of the
Huron County Federation of Agriculture for
some years and is a past member of the
provincial Federation of Agriculture ex-
ecutive.
Mr. Bailey was also chairman of the Hydro
routes committee which, organized farmers
fram Seaforth' to 1 Douglas Point who' were•
concerned about power lines cutting across
farm properties.
Mr. Bliley also 'served for five years as
member of the East Wawanosh' Township
school hoard. , .

Mr. Bailey said the issue which persuaded
him to run for the PC nomination was the
economy and his belief that "we need to
encourage individual initiative. He said the
main concern in,Huron County is agriculture
since it is ,the county's basic industry and so
many other industries are dependent on it.
Hesaid he was "very suprised" when. MP
Bob McKinley decided not to seek re
election in this riding in the coining election
and said this certainly forced some "snap
decisions" on his own part whether to run or
not. '

Although priorities for the board in the
new year will be the usual ones such as the
marketing of beans, Mt. Cardiff said one
concern is the cutbacks in agricultural
