The cheque was presented at the Lions. Club Elimination Draw on Saturday night. Residents of Brussels and area enjoy a Scottish Celidh on the weekend. Huron County Council changes its maximum fine for illegally cutting trees from $500. to $5,000. OCTOBER 17, 1979 Brussels Santa Claus par- ade committee decides on December 8 date for Santa's visit. The Lorne Humphrey sub- division in Belgrave receives OMB approval. Ethel Brown is the Post's first Gorrie correspondent. The Women's Institute celebrates its 40th anniver- sary with dinner at the Olympia restaurant, then members travel to Blyth to hear the Woodstock Choral- aires . OCTOBER 24, 1979 Morris Township council discusses the township's equalization factor with. Floyd Jenkins and Ken Ileagan from the regional assessment office in God- erich. The Maitland Valley Con- servation Authority (MVCA) works to control erosion a- long the Belgrave creek and at the time men from the Ministry of Natural Re- sources (MNR). Work on the creek to make it a more viable trout stream. The Brussels Arthritic Soc- iety raises $816.94 in its blitz around Brussels and area. The Brussels Ladies Auxil- iary for the Brownies and Girl Guides decides to hold a Christmas Concert as a fund- raising effort to adopt a foster child; Huron Federation of Agri- culture elects new slate of officers at its annual meeting held in Brussels. Brussels area residents are interviewed for possible sol- utions to the vandalism prob- lem. Rev. Dan Sargent asks for increased enrolment to keep the Brussels playschool oper- ating. County council sets new by-law to update its method of establishing hospital grants which says council will now pay a grant up to a maximum of 37.5 per cent of the paid provincial subsidy. , NOVEMBER 7,1979 Mrs. Stuart McNair tells of her visit to her brother's grave in France and Mrs. Clarke Matheson tells of her remembrances of the war for a Remembrance Day story for the Post. Morris Council discusses land severances for Bill Arm- strong and Wayne and Est- her Cantelon, Former Brussels resident James McNeil, son of Mr. and Mrs. James McNeil of Brussels and now a teacher in Hanover is a nominee for the Dick Asninall Memorial Award presented an- nually to an educator in Grey County, for an outstanding contribution to education during the previous school ,year.
