The Brussels Lions Club pays off debt on the Brussels Morris and Grey Community Centre with the presentation of a cheque for $4,220.80 to Jim Prior, chairman of the arena building fund commit- tee. AUGUST 22, 1979 Farmers air their com- plaints at a meeting on Grey Township's Secondary Plan. Brussels Reeve and clerk get invited to Brussels, Bel- gium. Local residents volunteer their services to help out victims of the Woodstock tornado disaster. Four generations of the Knight family get together in honor of wedding anniver saries. One of the couples being honored was "Russel and Ella Knight who will celebrate their 60th anniver- sary in October. AUGUST 29, 1979 Five Brussels area young people are injured as the result of a two car collision in Morris Township. Edwin krauter Of Ethel is offered over $1 million for his farm. Helen Dobson of Ethel is the overall winner for the second year in a row when the Brussels Horticultural Society holds its annual flower show and ham and turkey supper. Residents of Morris and Grey Township meet to discuss plans for a new Walton library. St. Ambrose in Brussels and the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic parish in Wingham make plans to sponsor two Southeast Asian and refugee families. SEPTEMBER 5, 1979 Enrolment is up at Brus- sels and Belgrave schools and down slightly at the Walton Public School. SEPTEMBER 12, 1979 BBA decides on a new promotional drive for bus- inesses, a1100 a week draw. Brussels council decides to write letters to a number of people informing them they were contravening a zoning by law by carrying on bus- inesses in a residential area. Grey Township council de- bates for the merits of foam insulation. Bluevale people appoint a committee to look into the costs of repairing the Blue= vale hall. Property tax equalization factors are explained to Hur- on County Council and the townships are hit hard. Lila Golf is honored upon her retirement as caretaker -, of the senior citizen's apart- ment building. BrusSels area farmers win prizes at CA, BOdmin farms with their cattle and Jan Van Vliet with his swine. SEPT. 19, 1979 Joanne King tells of the reeve, clerk and their wives trip to Brussels, Belgium where they were given royal treatment. A playschool is to start in Brussels on October 1, with Mrs. Colleen Rue, Mrs. Lynn Rowe and Mrs. Irene Mc- Donald of Brussels as the leaders. The new idea orig- inates with Rev. Dan Sargent who had started a similar school up north. Lorne Strickler of RR 2, Brussels shoots a 503 pound black bear on a hunting trip with his wife Arlene and their friends Clayton and Dawn Riley of RR 4, Sea- forth.
