When you read this I will be off to spend
some of the holiday season with members of
my. family. First to Mississauga for a short
visit with my son David and Louise and two
young grandsons. Then to Ottawa for
Christmas with son Robert and Barbara, two
granddaughters and three grandsons. It will
be a happy holiday season for me. What
grandmother would not be happy when
among sons, daughters, (my sons wives are
' daughterS to me. They are the girls I never
had) and grandchildren. Christmas without
young children and young people, filled with
expectation and excitement, would not be
the merry time it is with them around.
I Thanks to them all I will enjoy a Merry
Christmas Season. ,

Bob • McKinley, the Progressive
Conservative MP who has represented the
Huron riding for the past 14 years,
announced Wednesday that he
won't be seeking re-election in the upcoming
federal election.
Mr. McKinley, a Zurich area farmer, was
first elected to parliament in 1965, and has
been re-elected four times since then.
In announcing he wouldn't seek re-
election Mr, McKinley said the thought of a
winter campaign was certainly a factor in
influencing the decision.
Mr. McKinley, who is still in Ottawa, said
there also may be another minority
Parliament following the February election
and that would mean there might be another
election in a short time.
The MP said he didn't make his decision
to step down until Wednesday morning,
when he phoned CKNX in Wingham.
He said the new member elected in the
Huron-Bruce riding will "depend simply on
the candidate" since voters in the riding
tend to vote for the man rather than the
party.
Huron Liberals will nominate on Thursday
evening January 3 at a meeting in Blyth
Community Centre. Graie4rne Craig, Walton
area farmer: and technician who was the
Liberal candidate in the May 22 election has
indicated he will again seek the nomination.
Hon. Eugene Whelan, former minister of
agriculture,will speak. •
The Huron County New Democratic Party
learned Thursday night that three
individuals have expressed an interest in
seeking that party's nomination in the
upcoming federal election.
At the party's organizational meeting,
Thursday, Jan. 14 was set as the tentative
date for the nomination meeting.
Paul Carroll of Seaforth said Thursday's
meeting' was held to set up the groundwork
for the campaign. He said members
"established a tone for the campaign
equipment (skis, skates, etc) get into shape
before using them. You will reduce the risk
of accidents. Christmas safety tips extend to
New Years celebrations. Watch that
champagne ei sparkling wine cork or plastic
stopper. Make sure it is aimed in the right
direction. Make a safety resolution for Jan.

Pity weight watchers during this holiday
season. With all those delectable goodies
'tempting the eyes and the taste buds they
must be actually drooling as they struggle to
get out a polite "no thank you". Then there
is all that champagne, wine, and punch for
happy celebrants. Ouch, all those calories.
Thank goodness weight watching does not
inhibit me I would never be able to pass up
all those delights of Christmas.

• served since 1966.
There will be no. door-to-door
enumeration of voters for the February 1980
general election,
Shortly after Prime Minister Joe Clark
called the election on Thurs.lay, chief
electoral officer, Jean-mare Hamel said that
the Christmas mail rush would make it
almost impossible to get materials in the
hands of the more than 100,000 people
needed for the enumeration.
Had enumeration gone on as in the past,
the enumerators would have had to start
their work on Dec. 31. Under the new plan,
the voters' list from the last election will be
considered the preliminary list for Feb. 18.
Advance polling days are Saturday Feb. 9;
Monday, Feb. 11; and Tuesday, Feb. 12.
Voters unable to vote on Feb. 18 can do so at
the advance polling days between noon and
8 p.ni.
People unable to vote at any of the'
advance polls or on polling day may vote in
the office of the returning officer between,
noon and 6 p.m. and from 7 p.m.to 9p.m.
between Monday Feb. 11 and Friday, Feb.
15,
enduring. Here I am shut up in a' dog's'
boarding cage while my mistress is enjoying
herself with our family. I love those kids she
is with. VV1hat fun it would have been
roughing and tumbling with all of them
among those Christmas wrappings, bows
and boxes. How tasty those candies,
nuts and other goodies I ?could have coaxed
them to .sneak to me. Instead, here I am,
surrounded by angry, spitting and lonesome,
wailing cats and yapping little dogs. If I was
not such a good natured lady I would growl
and scare them to death. I never growl
except at cats. AS these cats cannot run
*anywhere it is no fun growling at them. With
my head between my paws I silently cry
inside my lonliness. My mistress explained
why she could not take me with her. Of
course, I understood. I am. an intelligent
animal. She will come back for me. She told
me she would. I hate being without her and
missing all the holiday fun. Just think of
it, not one bite of Christmas turkey
