The worship prepared by Mrs. Alex Taylor 'on the theme, "The Advent of Christmas" was depicted with candles representing the Advent namely, Hope, Preparation, Peace, Soy and Love". The candles were lighted as each of the following members took their St. Stephen's Guild met at the church on December 12 for a Christmas Pot Luck. Dinner enjoyed by 23 'members and friends. The turkey was cooked by Mrs. Harold King. The president Mrs. William Bennett gave a reading concerning a "Christmas in South Africa." She told about all the hardships the missionaries endured and how they tried to make Christmas like it was in their homeland Canada. As a result of gifts received from relatives and friends the Christmas in Africa was a happy occaison. Rev. Orrence Laramie reminded everyone that Christmas is the time for giving and especially to help missionaires at home and abroad. If we think of others a little more and ourselves a little less, then we will truly have the "Christmas Spirit". Rev. Laramie also thanked the Guild on behalf of the Church for all their support in the past year. A gift exchange was greatly enjoyed by all. Mrs. Harry King served a light lunch and the meeting closed with prayer. Correspondent MRS'. Mrs. Clifton Coulter submitted the report of the nominating committee, and in an impressive service, the new executive was installed by Mrs. J. E. Fellows. The officers are Honorary President-Mrs. J. Ernest Fellows, Past President, Mrs. Bill Nay; President- Mrs. Robert Strong, Vice President,.. The program Was in charge of the committee for community friendship and visiting. Mrs. George Brown gave some excellent ( thoughts on the importance of friendship. Mrs. Clifton Coulter led in service of Scripture readings and the Christmas carols, which portrayed the Christ story in all its phases from the prophecy concerning Christ's birth through the visit of the wise men.Mrs. Ball closed Metcalfe; Howick Recreation Committee, Peter Keil, John Armstrong, Lynda Pocaluyko The Howick Community Centre board has not yet been named, 'respective part of the service Mrs. A. McCutcheon has the closing remarks on Advent. • A Christmas poem was read by Mrs. Harry Gowdy and carols sung throughout the service. The roll call "A Christmas thought or wish" was answered by the members. During the business that followed the minutes were read by Mrs. John Strong and treasurer's report given by Mrs. Delbert Clegg. Mrs. Robt. Gik,son, gave the nominating committee's report of the 1980 Slate of officers and the remembrance convenor's report. It was decided to give a donation towards the payment on the piano and a special collection was taken for the Cancer Society. A card was signed for Mrs. Elmer Farrish in Victoria Hospital and Christmas treat boxes packed for local shut-ins. Refreshments were served t by the hostess and several members while everyone enjoyed recorded music from the "Living Christmas tree" presented each year by the Ministry of music of the People's Church Toronto. The January meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Alex Taylor with Mrs. J. Strong and Mrs. G. Minogue as convenors. Mrs. Sheldon Mann was the pianist for the evening; Mrs. Bill Nay, retiring president took charge of the business when reports were given by various convenors. A ; generous contribution was voted to the board of stewards of the church, as well as donations to church- related funds. Mrs. Nay expressed her thanks for support she had received during her term of office, and turned over the meeting to Mrs. Robt. Strong who spoke briefly, and closed with prayer.
