GEORGE BROWN 335,-3424 HOWICK JR. INSTITUTE Howick Women's Junior Institute met in the Howick Central School Library when Carol Shelley introduced the guest speaker Mrs, David Matheson from. Molesworth. She displayed many Christmas decorations, made mostly from cones, weeds which can easily be collected dried and sprayed. Under her talented fingers members saw a cone wreath take shape. She also showed how to make a basket of cones centrepiece and a modern "Broom decoration". Included in her fascinating display were a cone turkey, a cone turtle, peanut trees, teasel wreaths. Elaine Ash thanked her. Roll Call was answered by 31 members and one guest. Lis Hargrave thanked the dance committee for a job well done and Marg. Greig reported the proceeds had been sent to the Woodstock Disaster Fund. The next meeting will be a Christmas Supper in the Fordwich Community Hall Dec. 20. A very successful craft and bake auction concluded the meeting. Lunch was served by Marian Feldskov, Marg Greig and Catherine Stewart. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The Education and Cultural Activities meeting of the Gorrie Women's Institute was held Wed. November 21st. The President Mrs. Alvin Grainger and secretary Mrs. Robt. Gibson conducted business. Mrs. Alex Graham and Mrs. Robert Gibson were appointed to have lights installed on the large Christmas Tree on Main Street and possibly Christmas lighting fixtures on the Business area. Two projects the Women's Institute were interested in sponsoring this year are a visit to Fordwich Nursing Home in November and plans for catering at the Howick Community Centre on Dec. 7th, Street name signs were proposed as a future project by members after more investigation. Mrs. Cecil Wilson gave two book reviews on John S. Crosbie's book, "The Incredible Mrs. Chadrick" and "Grass Grows Greener over the Septic Tank" by Erma Bombeck, She also gave a most informative talk on Adult Education outlining the vast amount of material and many kinds of media. Mrs. Glenn Johnston reported on the Guelph Convention held at Binge man Park, Oct. 29 and 30. The Theme of which was "I am a Canadian". She called on other members who attended to give their impression of the two day meeting. Roll Call-Display a craft for leisure or pleasure answered by members with many items of interesting handiwork and craft. A successful course on "Indoor Gardening" was completed, Refreshments were served by Mrs. Jack Ferguson, Mrs. Glad. Edgar and Mrs. Martin Scott and the hostess. BIBLE SOCIETY Mrs. William A. Smith treasurer, reported $682.79 was raised for the Gorrie Branch of the Bible Society at the meeting in Gorrie United Church on Tuesday. This is an increase of $213.80 over 1978 canvas. This generosity of the donors is appreciated as also those who took time to canvass. Rev. Orrence Laramie, president opened the meeting with prayer. A few problems were discussed and plans were made for the 1980 canvass. Rev. Ernest Fellows closed the meeting with prayer. A dainty lunch was served by Mrs. E. Fellows. PERSONALS Mrs. Earl Cudmore of Brussels visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nay. Mr. and Mrs. Melville Dennis visited Sunday with her sister Mrs. Olive Currie of Ailsa Craig, and with other relatives in Strathroy. Mrs. Luella Sanderson is a patient in Wingham and District Hospital, Mrs. Sheldon Mann accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McCallum of Wingham to Stratford and they and. Miss Clara McCallum of Stratford visited their aunt Mrs. Jas. McCallum of St. Thomas. Mr. Robt. Wade of Montreal, Que. visited Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robinson on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs. Clinton Honeyford on Gowanstown also visited at the same home. Mrs. Howard Neabel, Mrs. Wm. A. Smith and Miss Margaret Dane attended the Black Watch Royal Highland Scottish Regiment of colourful pagentry at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday evening, Mrs. Stanley Grainger of London and Mrs. Mervyn Grainger of Exeter visited Mrs. Cecil Grainger and also Mr. Cecil Grainger in Brookhaven Nursing Home, Wingham. Mr. and Mrs, Bill King and family of Brussels, Mr. Ed, Gilinar, Geri Care, Harriston, Mrs. Everett Cathers, Wroxeter, Mrs. Harry Gowdy and. Miss Mary Beth Sanderson were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gowdy on Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. Wm. A. Henderson of Woodstock and Mr. Sandy Henderson of Toronto spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Mundell. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Cherry, Mr. Donald. Cherry and Mr. Wm. Cherry of Palmerston visited recently with Mrs. Edward Bolander. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Harrison of Burlington spent the weekend with Mrs. Glad Edgar. Dr. and Mrs. Alex Strong, Paula, Heidi and Peter of Wingham spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Robt. Strong. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Hoy of Wingham visited Sunday with Mr'. and Mrs. George Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Mayburry, John and Jane and Stephen of Kitchener have taken up residence in the former Burns Stewart home, which they have purchased. Mr. and Mrs, Clifton Coulter, Murray, Marian, Marlene and Michele spent last Sunday with Mrs. Eleanor Kress of Listowel, Mrs. Harvey Adams attended the christening of her great granddaughter Rachel Elizabeth, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas King, held in Harriston United Church and dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earle King of Harriston. Mr, and Mrs. Martin Scott have returned home after spending ten days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sean Rea with their granddaughters Lisa and Laura of Guelph while their parents were on holiday in Florida.
