BRUSSELS 10 THE BRUSSELS POST, NOVEMBER 28, 1979 WI directors hear Lorne Henderson "Inspiration and perspiration" are two help- ers that you could use in promoting the Women's In- stitute" said Mrs. Clarence Diamond, President of the Federation Women's Insitute of Ontairo as she opened the annual meeting of the Provincial Board in Toronto. The 34 Directors from across the Province made decisions that will affect the 28,000 members in Ontario and indeed many around the world. With an awareness of the needs of others they voted $2,000.00 for the project in Bangladesh for secretarial training including instruction in Nutrition education enabling the women of earn a living. The $1,500.00 that was sent to India last year was used for the IYC pro- gram in child care, nutrition and a mini-eye camp. Miss M. McGhee, the Director of the Home Economics Branch, Ministry of Agriculture and Food praised the 9,000 volunteers who gave of their time and talents to teach the 4-H and adult programs. She announced the retirement of Mrs. Helen Armstrong who has been the office Secretary for 17 years. Miss Mary Campbell of the Home Economics Branch will assume this position. "There is no better invest- ment of time, money and effort than investing in the young people" said Hon. Lorne Henderson, the Minister of Agriculture and Food, when he addressed the membershp and friends at the dinner. He praised the Women's Institute for its many accomplishments through the 83 years, par- ticularly in the rural areas. Mrs. Diamond expressed appreciation for the many services that are made available to the Women's Institute by the Ministry and the close working relation- ship between them. The Junior Women's Institute, represented by Ruth McCurdy and Barbara Saari were enthusiastic in their reports of the growth and activities of the branches throughout the Province. Their programs are to assist the young women in home- making and development of The Brussels Friendship Club met in the Legion Hal on Wednesday, November 21 with a 'good attendance. President Fred Thuell was in the Chair. Marg. Burkhart has been appointed sales represen- tative for the Goldenage Travel Club of Kitchener and she was at the meeting to talk about some one day trips coming up. A card was to be sent to Letta Smith, a patient in their talents. Mrs. H. Maluske pre- sented the resolutions tha had been received from the different areas. The re- solutions that were sustained pertained to the legalizing of ,marijuana, personal ad- vertising on the media, farm land use, and the closing of hospital accomodation. Mrs. Harvey Noblitt, the President Elect for the Fede- rated Women's Institute of Canada, gave the national report. Studies are being made On laws pertaining to children, the Citizenship and the British North America Act, land use and Canadian Unity. Voting delegates to the Golden Jubilee of the Associated Countrywomen of the World in Hamburg Ger- many in May 1980, were Listowel Hospital. Mrs. Tunney conducted a contest and the winner was Berva Dennis. The next meeting will be December 4, starting with a dinner at 12:30. A few games of euchre followed the meeting with prizeS as follows: High Lady - Mrs. Blake; Low Lady - Ethel Long; High gent - Ed. Martin; Low Gent Torrance Dundas; Brithday - Ida Gordon. named. The Directors are urged to promote special programs in their areas for 1980 , the Year of the Women's Institute. With words and actions they are to stimulate an awareness of the organization that it will become more effective as it strives to improve home- making skills, all aspects of family life to the betterment of the communities.
