Brussels 887-9514 New principal in Goderich THE BRUSSELS POST, NOVEMBER 28, 1979 — 7 BY WILMA OKE The Huron-Perth County Roman Catholic Separate School board confirmed the appointment of Jim McDade of Stratford as acting principal at St. Mary's School, ,Goderich for the period November 19 to December 31, 1979. Prior to the appointment he had been working out of the board office. He replaces Betty L. Clark, who had been the principal, but had asked for reassign- ment to other duties. Her new duties will be in the area of curriculum development with special emphasis on the revision and development of BY MURRAY GAUNT, M.P.P. The Minister of Energy has announced that many homeowners wishing to con- vert from heating oil to natural gas may have to wait until next spring or summer, due to an overwhelming de- mand for conversions. By the end of September this year, the three major natural gas utilities had converted 19,650 homes to natural gas, com- pared to 8,600 last year. The change from heating based on *uncertain oil supplies to more plentiful and cheaper natural gas has left. manufacturers, of furnace conversion kits unable to meet the demand. The Legislature Commit- tee on Hydro Affairs is recommending that no more. construction contracts, be a French program for grades 4 to 8. The position of principal at St. Mary's has been advertised and the appoint- ment of a principal wilibe made effective January 1, 1980. The board will hold its inaugural meeting for the 1980 term on December 3 when a chairman and vice- chairman will be elected, and the next regular meeting will be held on December 10. -There was a presentation made by John McCauley, Superintendent of Education and Mary Flannery, a special education resource teacher, on the awarded for the Darlington nuclear site until Hydro pre- sents the Legislature with ;a new construction program baspd on drastically lowered projections for electricity de- mand. The Minister of Health has stated that he'll use public money to respond to people identifiable on the 274,852 name petitions presented by the NDP which denounce the Province's health-care system. It will cost about $40,000 to send letters to these people, but the Minister stated it wouldn't special education for' ex- ceptional students, Miss Flannery explained that exceptional students are those who have behavioural, communication, intellectual, or physical exceptionalities to such a degree that changes in the regular curriculum must be made and/or special services pro- vided for them in school. Special education is the pro- gram made available to such students. She cutlined the role of the resource teacher, whose major responsibility is to diagnose, plan a teaching program and implement this teaching plan for children come from government funds for the operaton of hospitals or the Ontario Health (Continued on Page 3 ), -with special needs.
