About fifty per cent of the manufacturers who answered a survey by the Ontario Labour Ministry are having trouble filling jobs in skilled trades. The positions which employers are trying to fill are for machine operators, machinists, tool, die and mold makers, engineers; welders and electricians. Employers said many applicants lacked skills and on-the-job experience. The Labour Minister said he , would use the information to address, the problems through manpower policies. The Government has in- troduced legislation that would ban discrimination against the disabled. The proposed new act has two main purposes, Labour Minister Robert Elgie told the Legislature: - To make it illegal to refuse to hire the handicapped, or to fire them or deny them public accommodation or services because ,,of the handicap. This includes the physically disabled, epileptics, the mentally, retarded and those who "formerly had a mental disdrder." - To set up an office for the handicapped to provide information about ?rOfframs and benefits. Health Minister Dennis Timbrell said this week that his ministry will seek a judgement forcing John. Brown to repay almost $1 million he defrauded from the ministry. Mr. Timbrell made the statment during an interview outside the Legislature when asked whether he would attempt to recover $975, 615 defrauded by Mr. Brown between 1971 and 1975.
