grandparents Thelma and Doug Jones, Brucefield; his mom
Debbie and dad Dale Jones and great-grandmother Mrs. Wm.

mother Mrs. Maude Baird; great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs.
John Alcock, Brussels; Bleat-grand mother Mrs. Muriel Jones,
Clinton and great-grandfather William Daer, Goderich. Kevin
identifies all his grandparents by their given names so he can

Isn't it about time we look
at ourselves - even at this
early hour, and see what
we're doing?
"Doing to what?" you
grumble,
To Christmas!! Christ's
birth in the manger. Some of
us, buried in our frenzied
activities, have forgotte.n that
Christ is the real core of
Christmas, and thus he has
faded way out of the picture
of bright tinsel and cham-
pagne, wrapping paper and
turkey. Some of you will call
me a Scrooge before I finish,
but take a look with me as we
move aside the curtain of
time past and glimpse at our
former celebrations. What
feeling comes to find fore-
most when you think back?
Happiness? Dejection? De-
pression? Or are you still
traditionally tied to the lovely
idea of Santa and gifts and
heartfelt honesty? Then do
not read on. Finding it out for
myself was bad enough, and
I really hate to pass it on. But
I will.
Hasn't it ever really struck
you how much of a play-act
Christmas is? A frozen smile
on a set face-empty, mean-
ingless "Merry Christmases"
expensive gifts which take
the real joy of giving out of
Christmas; bright, false
cards of laughing people-
empty people, headaches of
preparation; and the ultimate
result: deep, dark, dan-
gerous depression. You
Nonder what it was all about,
whether you missed some-
thing or not, why you feel
this way. lt's simple, and it's
looking straight in your face.
Christmas has been so
blown up out of proportion
with a deep desire to "reajly

make a go at this one," that
the basic element of Christ's
birth, joy, has been omitted.
When we remember that
beautiful Bible account of the
"babe wrapped in swaddling
clothing, lying in a manger,"
and think of the purpose of
his coming, we become a-
shamed at our self centred
method of bringing happi-
ness to others. Read the
story for yourself and find
the pure thread of real
selflessness' binding the
story together. There was no
false laughter, or counterfeit
wishes for a merry day, and
the only bright tinsel at his
birth was the glow of the
lantern on the golden straw.
Simple, yes, and truly happy.
Well, as. I said before, I
could be called a Scrooge
when it comes to Christmas,
but at least I am not unduly
depressed after the merry
month of Christmas. And by
honestly analyzing your own
Christmas spirit, perhaps
you too can celebrate a
genuinely happy Christmas-
one without that pasted-on-
smile.

TRIP TO TORONTO
The much heralded day
came and passed. Actually,
to be exact, the bus trip to
the Art Gallery of Ontario in
Toronto to observe the
Treasures of Tutankhumum
on Sunday, November 4th
has been accomplished. The
one hundred and five art
students and a few interested
parents aboard one of two
buses or the van provided for
the occasion. We had sac-
rificed for this trip. Many
had gotten up at 5:00 a.m: in
order to be at the school for
the 6:00 departure time. It all
seemed a bit unreal.
The boy king of ancient
Egypt could not have possib-
ly dreamed that 3000 years
later; humans would come to
his treasures, not as , grave
robbers, but as thieves of a
different kind. We took away
memories—images of gold in
intricate work and serene,
staring eyes. Yes, the objects
are truly beautiful. Some
came away not thinking them
very impressive at all. But
we are accustomed to mass
production of dome-like fig-
urines and work untouched
by the human hand. Our
appreciation for historic work
has not been cultivated pro-
perly. In the dimmed rooms,
all o_bjects ' were lighted,
bringing a mysterious air
that was, perhaps, hospit-
able to those Egyptian spirits
who would be as vastly
interested in our actions as
were us of their artistery.
From under glass, the fifty-
five articles were observed
and whisperings slipped be-
tween admirers.
At any rate, I found the
King Tut trip fascinating,
both in the art of the
Ppyptians and the people of
Toronto. Yet one doubt is left
in my mind. Does the spirit
of Tutankhamum really wish
