It is 3:24 on a Monday night and the. Senior football team is scheduled for prac- tice. But, where are they? Where are all those muscular talented, hunky, brutes of football players? Where is the spirit of F. E. Madill? F. E. Madill is a school of more than eleven hundred students, but very few of them participate in school sports. Sports are a way to meet people, to keep physi- cally fit, to help learn new skills, (and it also gets you out of class.) By coming out for sports you give pride to your school and yourself. It would be much better to say your team placed third in the standings, than not to have a team at all. Everybody had his own excuse for not participating, I am sure you have heard the old excuse "I'm not good enough." You never know how good you are until you try. Even if you do not make the team, intramurals are always open to you. For all you "tough" peo- ple, who would rather smoke and try to be "cool", why not go out on the court and be "hot?" Forget about pleas- ing your friends and do what you think is best. Of course, students are not the only ones to blame. How often are we let out of class to support the team? If it is not possible for students to get out maybe the cheerleaders could. They always dive teams a "lift" while playing. Maybe we should face the fact that not everyone will get involved. Well if you are one of these people, come out and support others. Being behind is not 'quite as bad when the fans are out cheering for you. If you cannot participate, support our cause. Your donations of a cheer would be greatly appreciated. —Lori Goodall Pep Rally Let's go! Oct. 31, 1979, is the day set aside so that all Madill students may wear ting away in your closet with that white shirt you spilt grape pop on when you were in Grade 9. —Jo McCormick dress or your purple pedal pushers that have been rot- their favorite colours "purple and white." There will be short periods and at 2:30 everyone will congregate in gym 228 for the excitement of the Pep Rally. There the cheerleaders will do a routine then everyone will follow them to the football or basketball game, where you will help the cheerleaders cheer.. So wear those purple bloomers set off with a white New column This year we on the school page staff would like to open "The Mirror" up to the entire students body by making a new column for all of the more creative Mus- tangs. This column, to be entitled "Creative Corner" will be a spot where students can see poems, prose and short stories printed that are works of a fellow-student's mind. We hope that, by providing this new column, all of our poets and authors will come out of hiding and give added interest to the Mirror. This is YOUR paper. Use is to your advantage. Articles for "Creative Corner" can be submitted to Mrs. McDonald in Room 218 or to Kathy Underwood, 12K. Be true to you You are the only living you. You are the only living one who can smile just that way Or wear those jeans and look like you. This Friday the cross country team of F.E. Madill will travel to Benmiller to participate in the WOSSA meet. The teams who quali- fied for this were the Senior Girls and Boys teams as well as Junior and Midget Boys. They did so by • producing excellent standing in the Huron-Perth meet held at Benmiller a week ago Mon- day. Coaching the cross country team for the first time was Mr. Campbell, who obvious- ly enjoyed this task. When asked about the team's ef- forts he said that this 'year's team did very well in both practice and meets. He also said that he enjoyed coaching them and that he had a good group of runners, numbering 46 members. His prediction for WOSSA was "we'll place fairly well." You are the one person who can say "I like this or that" And make it really true. You are the only being that can decide whether you'll be Sad or happy today. You are the only soul who can will your mind and body To struggle past their limits. You are the only living you. Don't let anyone short- change you in that respect. Be the person you want to be and love yourself for that. You are a special, unique, one-in-a-trillion you. Not one other person is just like you. Not one other person Should be like you. Be an individual you. Live up to your own standards. Shakespeare wasn't so dumb when he said, "Above all, to thine own self be true." After all, you are the only living you. The runners deserve ap• predation for their efforts. They were willing to brave all kinds of weather and running conditions during practice as well as in meets. Even if they don't place in WOSSA, the cross-country team has a year to be proud of. —Bernice Passchier Clover Cream ICE CREAM 2 Litre Carton 1.39 ',Itreamalunseatmeremzempuroonalm.
