GEORGE BROWN 335-3424 The Gorrie Senior Citizens "Come Alive Club" members enjoyed a bountiful supper in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening which was well attended. This, was followed by a short business meeting conducted by Jack Ferguson. Vice-President. The members greatly appreciate the substantial donation from the Gorrie Teenagers Dance group of which Mr. and 'Mrs. Wm. Keil and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Keil were chaperones. The next meeting will be a Games Night on October 30 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Lloyd Jacques gave the minutes and Miss Jean Sparling the Treasurer report A letter of appreciation was read from Salvation Army for the Red Shield Campaign. The Fall Thankoffering of Know Presbyterian Woman's Missionary Society was held in the Church on Oct. 9. The President Miss Louise Matthews gave the Call to Worship, "Our Father give us open eyes to see the beauty around us. Let all lovely things fill us with gladness and let us lift up our hearts in true worship:: Mrs. Hugh Deighton and Mrs. Gordon Moir gang a duet accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Alvin Mun- dell. Rev Ernest Fellows spoke on "Hear the Good News", challenging us to lay claim to the promises that Christ offers to us: as we are not realizing the potential of our Christian lives. Trade your dime. Christianity for, higher values; and in the evening he chose as his theme,"A right Heart". The choir sang, "Jesus lowed by the singing of, "My Faith is like an Oaken Staff. Mrs. A, Mundell introduced the guest speaker Mrs. John Bell of White- church who chose as her Theme, "Many are called but few are chosen:' Mrs. David Neilson thanked the speaker. A social half hour was spent in the church parlor. MEETING Citizenship and World Affairs Convenor. Mrs Alex. Graham, assisted by Mrs. Wilbur Hogg hosted the October meeting of the Gorr it: Women's Insitute at her home on Wednesday evening of last week. Miss Sharon Langendoen, a grade 7 student,gave her public speech entitled "Paper Canadians" which won her three first prizes and a third prize in contests sponsored by Legion and Lions Clubs. She was thanked by Mrs. A. Graham and presented with several new silver dollars. The president reported, the Institute winning third prize in the group exhibit at the local Fall Fair, and it was voted that the Institute donate $325.00 towards the new building at the Community Centre, proceeds from the hot dinners served by the Institute Oct. 5 & 6 for the Howick Fair. A donation of $50.00 was also given to the McArthur Fire Fund. has Promised", and the trio comprised of Mrs. Robin Bolander, Mrs. Raymond Gowdy and Mrs. Robt. Strong sang, "My Task". Mrs. Sheldon Mannand Mrs. John Freeman were organist and pianist. The Male Chorus from Melville presbyterian provided special music at the evening service. They sang "A closer walk with Thee" and, "I want my life to tell for Jesus" and other numbers. Mrs. G. F. Johnston gave a report on the District Executive meeting held recently in Fordwich, mentioning the change of fees, mileage charges etc. and the invitation to the District Annual in Wroxeter next year. Mrs. Robt. Gibson reported on the District Rally in Elimville Oct. 1st at which she and Mrs. James Gray were delegates; an invitation was extended to hold rally in. Gorrie in 1980. Mrs. Gray sent in a short report of Rally also. The Roll Call - Did you hear? (Current events) was answered by the members. The remainder of the evening was spent with slides on a trip to Europe last year shown by Mrs. Robt. Gibson, with a commentary on the seven countries visited and comparisions of their life styles and traditions to those of ours. Lunch was served by the hostess and Mrs. Wilbur Hogg. PERSONALS Mrs. Alvin Mundell and Mrs. Frances Nugent of Ripley attended the Adult Forum of the National Council of Churches held at Bond Place Hotel Toronto as observers for the Women's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church in Cana,da. Twenty-five churches in Canada and United States gathered to share new programs and resources. Mrs. Isabelle McDougall of Listowel visited Mrs. Glad Edgar on Sunday. Mrs. Edgar went Monday to Victoria Hospital, London. Mr. and Mrs. George Noble, Mr. Ken Noble spent weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lynden of London. A number attended the Presbyterian Anniversary services in Wingham on Sunday at which Rev, W. McClure of Whitby, formerly of Gorrie and Molesworth, was the guest speaker'. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Coulter of Kitchener visited relatives in the village on Saturday. Recent visitors with Mrs. A.L. Stephens were Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Stephens, misses Debbie and Cheryl Stephens all of Kitchener; Misses Kim and Keri Stevens of Port Elgin. Mrs. Frances Lewis of Kitchener spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Melville Dennis. Mrs. Elizabeth Fellows of Brampton spent the week- end with her son Rev. Ernest Fellows and Mrs. Fellows. Mr. and Mrs. Ian Howes, Marcie, Mandy and Lana and Mrs. Annie Howes of Peter- borough spent the weekend with Mrs. Cecil Grainger. Mr. Cecil Grainger was home on Saturday from the Brook- haven Nursing Home Wingham. Mr. and Mrs. Kunno Schuitema of Groningen, Holland have returned home after spending two weeks at the home of his brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schuitema, R.R.1, Gorrie. Mr. and Mrs. George Brown visited Sunday with Miss MaryLamont and Mr. Melville Lamont, R.R.1, Ethel. Mrs. Lloyd Jacques accomapnied Mr. and Mrs. John Jacques David and Rachel and visited at the home of Mr. and Ms. Orville Awrey of Barrie on Sunday. Gorrie United Church has anniversary
