GEORGE BROWN 335-3424 Christian development was the theme when the October meeting of the , Gorrie United Church women was held in the church hall. Devotions were in charge of Mrs. Raymond Gowdy and Mrs. Helen Stephens. The Scripture pas5age from Luke Chapter two, described th6 development of Jesus from childhood to manhood, and was read by Mrs. Gowdy. Ways of helping to achieve personal Christian develop- ment were presented by Mrs. Stephens and Mrs. Gowdy; Mrs. Velma Mann presided at the piano. The church promotes Christian development in many ways, but two had been chosen for special attention i Miss Kendra Robertson and Mrs. James Scheffter spoke on recent events in which they had taken part , Miss Robertson hd spent five weeks at the U.C. camp at Menesetung near Goderich, , she had attended as a senior camper and for four weeks as a counsellor. She explained some of the camp routine, problems and rewards of the camp experience and expressed the enjoyment and inspiration she had received. Mrs. Scheffter had attended the Week End Westminister College as a representative from Gorrie U.C.W. last May. She reported on the inspiration she had received from the formal 1 ectures and the contacts in smaller groups. The U.C.W. members were delighted to hear such ex- cellent reports. Mrs. Gowdy and Mrs. Stephens pre- sented each with a small gift.. The president, Mrs. William Nay took charge of the business period, and the secretary, Mrs. William Behrns read the minutes and took the roll call. The treasurer, Mrs. Elva Jacques gave a detailed financial report and Mrs. Lionel Johnston reported for the manse committee on the improvements and the re- novations made during the summer. The treasurer was directed to transfer the re- gular quarterly donation to the Mission and service fund. At the request of the president)Rev. Fellows spoke briefly on the new budget system. Two invitations had been received to attend Thankoffering services in neighbouring churches. Chuck Gibson of Bridgeport and Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Gibson spent sunday 'last at Conestoga and attended the Conestoga Endura Motor-bike race; Douglas Gibson of Orangeville was one of the top contestants in the endurance test. Mr. and Mrs. James Alcorn attended the wedding of Susan Cameron and Tames Pierce, Sept. 22 at Cobob- conk Faith Tabernacle and the Reception was held at Miner's Bay Lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robinson attended the Iriternational Plowing Match at Chatham and spent a few days at Dearborn, Michigan. Mr. Cecil Grainger was a patient in. Wingham General Hospital for a few ,days last week and on Thursday was transferred to Brookhaven Nursing Home. In the other business the membets were reminded that the bzzaar is being held on Oct. 27th one week earlier . than formerly and that the date'for the annual Fowl supper has been set for Nov. 13th, PERSONALS Mrs. Archie Miller and Mrs. Ken Hastie attended a shower in Harriston 'on Sunday for the former's granddaughter Miss Brenda Breors. Mrs. Wesley B. Ball, Thamesford, Mrs. Harold Ball, Montreal and Mrs. Kathleen Beamen, England visited one day last week with Mr. and Mrs. Wesley R. Ball. Mrs. James Alcorn has returned home after spending three months at their summer home on, Shadow Lake, Coboconk. Visitors with them while there were their family, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Alcorn, Orangeville, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Alcorn, Chris and' Cherri, London, and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Ferguson and Carrie of Act. on, they also had guests from many points in Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Alcorn visited Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd King at Lindsay and spent a few days in Toronto. . They visited Ontario Place and saw the opening parade of the Toronto Exhibition and visited Mr. and Mrs. Victor Dunford at Mimico, Mrs. Irene Burns and Donald at Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Tizzard at Whitby and Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Lazier and Mr. and. Mrs. Howard Davidson at Cobourg. They also visited. Dr. and Mrs. David Allan at Huntsville. Messrs Harvey McMichael, Harry Mulvey and Robt. Gibson spent three days at Chatham attending the International Plowing Match. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Weber, Mrs.,Allan Gibbons, Timmy and Janis visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Mann and family. — Mrs. James Gray and Mrs. Robert Gibson were the delegates from the Gorrie Institute who attended the Huron County Women's Institute Rally on Monday Oct. 1 at Exeter in Elimville United Church.
