exhibiting grandeur and
opulence and to dinner in
some of the finest rest-
aurants in Belgium. Six
course meals are some of the
luxuries we experienced.
Caviar, anchovies, gooseliver
pate and avocado and shrimp
were some of the foods we
had never tasted before.
Gerard Valet and his lovely
wife Tania took us to dinner
at a restaurant dating back to
1625 when it was a farm and
then to their home where we
saw his workshop for his
broadcasting with the French
radio.
Pierre de Vos entertained
us at his home and in
restaurants where we again
suffused our appetities with
excellent cuisine. Such
hospitality as this we have
never enjoyed before.
VIVID HISTORY
History became so much
more vivid when we visited
Waterloo and saw the battle-
field and museum of
Napoleon and Weill' .4t-in.
We were r cc u the
Southern part w ,glum to
Namur where the mayor and
councillors entertained us
and presented books and
candy, then on to the Anne-
voll Gardens where fountains
flow forever, having been
contrived by natural pres-

In Moredsous we watched
the monks make beer and

by Jean Mogin in St.
Michel's Cathedral. The
churches are so different
from Canada because they do
not have pews as we know
but chairs that are used for
praying and sitting. Religion,
consists largely of Roman
Catholics, agnostics and
atheists. The architecture in
the churches is ornate and
.R2d with carvings both in
stone and wood.
When you think of the
antiquity of the civilization,
Canada seems so young and
undeveloped.
We were invited to the
office of the Mayor of Water-
meel - Boitsford where this
Mayor Madame Payfa enter-
tained with dinner and tours
of L'Ecole International, an
Africian museum, pottery
and painting by Roger
Somville, who was commis-
sioned by this city to paint
wall murals.
Mr. Poupko, President of
the French Commission for
culture, and the mayor of
Woluwe Saint - Lambert,
another borough showed us
their sculpture exposition
and entertained with drinks
and dinner.
The Mayor of Brussels,
Van Halleren and his wife
took us on a tour thibugh
their city hall where the
furnishings and decor were
lavishly ornate. Tapestry was
Later that day the Press
and employees of the
Ministry met at the Canadian
Embassy where we were
entertained by Mr.
Lamoureaux the former
speaker in the House of
Commons.
Shopping is expensive in
Belgium but Canada's prices
are rising also.
The night before we left
we stood at our hotel window
and watched "Ommergane
This is an exhibition of

The hospitality and gen-
erosity of the Belgian people
is something we will never
forget and we hope if any of
these people come to Canada
we can treat them in such a
courteous and generous
manner.
Pierre De Vos, Gerard
Valet and Sabena Airlines
instigated this wonderful ex-
change of cultures and we
have only touched on some of
the highlights of this en-
riching experience.
Most women dream "if
only we could be Queen for a
Day". Marguerite Krauter

perienced this supreme
honour for 10 days.

NORTH SEA.
Our restaurant this day
was situated on the canal.
Later in the day we visited
the North Sea and watched
one of our drivers eat raw
mussels.
One very outstanding
highlight of the trip was the
dinner held at La Maison du
Cygne for 49 dignitaries in-
cluding the French and
Canadian ambassadors and
the ministry. Pierre de Vos
and Gerard Valet were pre-
sented with pictures to
honour their contribution to
French radio and T.V. Our
village was presented with
the replica of the Mannekin
Pis and each of us received a
painting by Roger Somville.
Reeve Krauter replied to
the Minister's speech with
this comparison. "Our

our hearts are the same
size."
