Belgrave hosts histbrical. group

Approximately 12S signed
the register at the Huron
County Historical Society
meeting which was hosted by
the Belgrave Women's
Institute in the W.I. Hall on
Wednesday evening
September 5th.
While people were
gathering for the meeting the
Brussels Legion Band
played several numbers
outside the hall which were
much enjoyed.
Mrs, Walter Scott curator
of the Tweedsmuir• History
welcomed members and
guests of the surrounding
area and opened the meeting
with "0 Canada", with Mrs.
Norman Coultes at the piano
for all the musical
numbers.
The president Mrs.
Leonard James welcomed all
visitors on behalf of the
Belgrave Women's Institute.
Mrs. Walter Scott called
on the band who favoured
with "Amazing Grace",
after which she introduced
each member of the band.
Mrs. Simpson of Hensall
gave the report of the con-
vention held at Orillia.
After a short business
meeting Clarke Johnston
entertained with musical
selections. A reading was
given by Mrs. Gordon
McBurney which was,
followed by a ladies`
quartette of Mrs. John
Anderson, Mrs. George
Procter, Mrs. Glenn Coultes
and Mrs. William Coultes
who sang "Grandfather's
Clark", and "Put on your old
Grey Bonnet".
Ross Procter was the guest
speaker for the evening
giving the history of the
hairnet of Bodmin, using his
tapes and slides and told of
their own business enter-
prise of Bodmin Ltd.
Mrs. Garner Nicholson
thanked all those taking part
and helping in any way to
make the evening a success.
The meeting closed with
the "Queen" after which
lunch was served by
members of the Belgrave
Women's Institute. Many
enjoyed the fine display of
antiques in the hall.
EAST WAWANOSH
PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWS
. 177 enrolled at East
Wawanosh Public School on
Tuesday, September 4 with
20 new beginners.
The new principal relief
this year is Mrs. Gary Lifle
who teaches at Turnberry
Central School in the
mornings and East
Wawanosh Public School in
the afternoons in Grades 7-8.
Mrs. Lynda Train,
remedial teacher, who is on
leave is supplied by Mrs.
Karen Eldridge.
UCW MEETS
The Evening Unit of the
U .0 . W. of Knox
church, Belgrave met on
Tuesday evening at the home
of Mrs. James Coultes.
Mrs. John McIntosh led
the worship service assisted

by Mrs. Harold Vincent and
Mrs. Howard Marton
reading scripture passages.
Mrs. George Johnston led
the singing of the hymns.
In the business, it was
decided to cater to a nintieth
birthday party. It was also
decided to entertain at
Brookhaven Nursing Home
on October 12 at the monthly
birthday party.
The next
meeting will be October 9 at.

Reviews
The September meeting of
the Belgrave A.C.W. was
held on Tuesday afternoon at
the home of Mrs. Olive
Campbell With 9 members
and 1 visitor in attendance.
The President Miss Mary
Isabel Nethery opened the
meeting and the scripture
was read by Mrs. Harold
Jardin. The secretary, Mrs.
Clare Van Camp, read a
notice of the Fall Deanery
Meeting to be held in Luck-
now on October 2nd.
Mrs. Alex. Nethery gave
the treasurer's report and
the collection was received.
Miss Lillian Potter continued
her history of the church in
England covering the period
in the reign of King Henry
VIII. The meeting closed
with prayer and grace was
sung.
In recognition of her 90th
birthday, Miss Stella
the home of Mrs. George
Johnston.
Mrs. William Coultes read
the speech of Marjorie Smith
given at the Westminister
church
Nethery was presented with
a corsage and birthday cake
and ice cream were served
The W.M.S. held their
September meeting last
Tuesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Ivy Cloakey
who presided for the
meeting.
The scripture was taken by
Mrs. Jack McBurney, The
meditation on "Patience"
was given by Mrs. Garner
Nicholson; Mrs. Victor
Youngblut led in prayer. The
roll call was a verse on
Patience. The secretary's re-
port was given by Mrs.
weekend, describing the
Holy Spirit.
The meeting closed with a
social half hour and lunch
served by Mrs. Bert
Johnston's group.

meeting with a prayer and
lunch was served.
