Heats at 11 a.m. Finals at 3 p.m. An appeal, was issued for help for the Southeast Asian refugees and the people around the Brussels and Wingham areas have responded. The response has resulted in the sponsorship of two Laoitian families, along with the offer of two houses for them to live in, furniture, clothing, food for a year and $18,000 cash to date. This all came about as the result of a commitment from members of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic parish in Wingham (of which the Brussels St. Ambrose parish is a part) to sponsor a family. Following an information meeting in Wingham on the refugee problem, a committee was set up to investigate the possibility of sponsoring some Southeast Asian refugees. The committee drew up a questionnaire asking people in the parish whether they would be able to assist in some way and they got back the offer of the aforementioned items. The houses offered were one owned by Art Jones on County Road 19--the road between Moleworth and Ethel and a house on the Tide Soap Limit 2 Liquid Soap Ivory 24kg. 52.8oz. ens range Crystals 4 to a pac Chapmane Ice Cream 2 litres fifth concession of Morris owned by Charlie Terpstra. Father Antony Sonderup said the commit- tee went ahead and organized sponsorship through the Immigration offices in Kitch- ener. One application was for a family of seven--a mother, father, four children and the brother of the father and the other application was for a family of five--a mother, .father and three children. The committee was told the families would be here in one or two months. Immigration is now tracing these Laos families. On Saturday., the church is having a work bee on Mr. Jones' house which has been standing empty for two years. The parish would also appreciate any furniture that anybody could offer for the house. When the refugees get here, the children will be attending, school--probably the separate schools in either Wingham or Dublin since the families are Catholic and an education committee has also been formed Within the parish in order to help the adults learn the English language.
