While our reporter Debbie Ranney knows that Brussels is building sanitary sewers, the gremlins in the system made the mistake of calling them storm sewers- and the story appeared under a headline reading "Storm Sewers benefit area." The Brussels Post apologized for this error. WANTED . - LIARS - Brusselsfest Sept. 22, 1979 (Continued from Page 1) next few weeks may influence their entire lives. They need, help, understanding and encouragement from parents and teachers alike. ****** It seems that backing is a hazardous manoeuver. The Ontario Safety League reports that over seven thousand drivers in Ontario in 1978 had accidents while backing their vehicles. It does not pay to take a quick glance behind and then back up. It takes careful look-see to be sure the way is clear. You could back into a pedestrian, another vehicle, or some other object that a quick glance missed. Keep your eyes peeled as you continue to back. Some other driver could move into your way. It is your responsibility to back safely, not that of someone else. ****** Debbie Brill, our 26 year old Canadian high-jump champion from B.C., captured the Gold Medal awarded in the high jump competition in the World Cup Athletics in Montreal this past weekend. To accomplish that she had to beat the World Record holder, Sara Simeoni of Italy. That she did in her third (the last) jump. Debbie was the representative on the America team. She received a well-deserved standing ovation from the crowd of 20,000 in the Olympia Stadium in Montreal. It is no mean feat to become a World Cup Gold Medalist in .any athletic event. She has worked long, and zealously for this victory. Canadians should be proud of her hard-earned achievement. We wish her well in future competitions. ****** It is a well known fact that turkey meat is good eating. Everyone has heard of the sport of turkey shoots. Then, of course, there are prize winning turkeys. Have you ever thought to see turkeys being involved in races, fashion shows and beauty contests? They have been! They were a feature attraction in just such things at the Strathroy Turkey Festival. It is possible to imagine turkeys being trained to race, but, fashion shows and beauty contests! Those I would indeed have liked to see. What did those turkey fashion plates wear? How about the beauty contest participants? Were they adorned with cosmetics? How were they ever persuaded to submit to all the fuss that milady goes through for a beauty contest? Were they made to strut their stuff and demonstrate a talent as human contestants do? I'll bet the winner was the one with the most alluring bosom display. * 5** * * The increase in traffic accidents, fatal ones reported almost every day, makes me I shudder. Will I, will you, or someone near and dear to us, be the next? No one is immune. We cannot be innoculated against accidents. It is up to all vehicle drivers to drive defensively. The Ontario Safety League tells us traffic safety depends on three things: What you think about it. What you know about it. What you do about it. *55*** If you did not clip out the last article on "Car Exercises for Weary Travellers" that appeared in last week's Post you should have. They are an excellent way to relieve cramped muscles when driving long dis- tances. Not only for that are they effective. You can use them to relieve tension when sitting at a desk or any time you feel a need to loosen up. If you did not keep the article it would be a smart idea to huzit last week's Post and clip it now. Try those exercises. You will be glad, you did. ****** THE BRUSSELS POST, AUGUST 29, 1979 — Get results I Phone 887.6641 Post Want ads Small no Cones1 Large)-(arge tafto 88?9 Sundaes 5‘5. 60°85° Milkshakes 96- 85° Floats Ps 65° Banana Split ltlf° 51.20 25°350 Submarines X1.60 Mini Pizza 55° Short Shots by Evelyn Kennedy Small Pop Large
