Branch,
Ontario
accompanied by her mother
at the piano, Mrs. Keith
Nicholson sang several
numbers and asked the
audience to join with her in
some old favourites. Mrs.
Carl Johnston was pianist.
Happy Birthday greetings
were sung to four of the
residents, Mr. Ed, Pollard
Charlie Buck, Mabel Jane
Montgomery and Loretta
Sturdy and were pres ented
with gifts. Cupcakes and tea
were served.
The members then went to
the home of Mrs. Jack
Nicholson where the
business meeting was
conducted, being opened
in the usual manner.
Concern was expressed for
so many sick people in our
community. The members
voted to send a donation of
$40.00 to "Family and
Children's Services of Huron
County", which will send a
child to camp this year.
It was decided not to cater
to meals for Howick Fall Fair
Board in the fall but to serve
the meal for the Graduating
class at Turnberry School, on
June 26. Mrs. Wm. DeVos,
Mrs. Harry Elliott and Mrs.
Carl Johnston were
appointed to be a committee
for planning this meal.
A trip to Blyth Summer
Festival has been arranged
to see the play "I'll be back
for you before midnight" and
no regular meeting will be
held in July. August will be
holiday month and Mrs. Bert
Garniss plans to host the
Sept. meeting,
The Roll Call was
ansered by 17 members and
serveral visitors expressing
views on "What are your
th oughts on euthanasia."
Lunch was provided by
Mrs. Sparling Johnston,
Mrs. Gordon Holt and Mrs.
Chas. Mathers, and served
by Mrs. Nicholson's
daughter Rose Marie Bishop
and daughter-in-law Hannah
Carol and Shirley Nicholson.
LAST SERVICE
Rev. Wilena Brown
conducted services in the
United Church on Sunday
morning. This was the last
Sunday of the pastorate of
Rev. Brown in Bluevale and
Whitechurch.
Joanne Edgar sang the
solo" It Only Takes a
Spark".
A new hymn-prayer
written in the winter of 1979
by A.H. Neelon, a former
pastor was sung.
Miss Brown's sermon was
"Farewell". She spoke of the
great love of Jesus and said
"With our roots in Jesus
Christ we can build our life
suitably." Christianity is an
invitation to the greatest
glory. Jesus tells us Love one
another-continue in my love.
She concluded by saying
"Fare-Well , May you have
the love of Jesus working in
you like yeast, and may God
our Father give you peace:'
After the Benediction,
Robert Fraser, Clerk of
Session asked Miss Brown to
remain at the front of the
church while Mrs. Ross
Nicholson read words of
appreciation for her splendid
co-operation, her untiring
efforts and her dedicated
work in this church and
community, and asked her to
accept the thanks of
everyone.
A table and folding chairs
were presented and Miss
Brown thanked all. A social
hour was spent and lunch
served to the congregation
and visitors from the
Presbyterian Church.
