Crowd at United Church baptism
Sunday May 13 at Brussels
United, Church there was a
capacity crowd for the
Mother's. Day Service and
Sacrament of Baptism. The
organist Mrs. Judy Morton
played from Handel's
MesSiah "He Shall Feed His
Awards were presented on
Friday, May 18th. Mr. Liver-
more presented armbars to
the Volleyball team that
competed at the Wingham
tournament. In Intramural
Floor Hockey, the New York
Islanders won the Grades 5 &
6 • girls division and the
Montreal Canadians won for
the Grades 7 & 8 girls. In the
The Ladies Guild met in
Melville Church on Tuesday,
May 15th at 7:30 p.m. As this
was a work meeting the
devotional period consisted
only of Prayer given by
Isobel Adams and an article
on "The Model of a Mother"
by Kate Wilson.
Donna Knight presided for
business which included a
W.M.S. dinner on May 28
being catered to by Group 1.
It was decided to forego
lunch after church on Sunday
morning June 24th and serve
a light lunch after Anniver-
sary Service on Sunday eve-
ning, June 17th.
Several of the members
volunteered to act as a
welcoming committee and
call on our new church

the newly formed Inter-
mediate Choir proceeded to
the Church gallery where
they sang, "A Tribute To
Mother" from yesteryear,
directed by Mrs. Sheila
Richards and accompanied
boy's Grades 5 &6 division,
the Montreal Canadians won
and for Grades 7 & 8, it was
the Boston Bruins.
Mrs. Dilworth presented
the awards for Public Speak-
ing. The Grades S & 6
awards went to Dianne Cox
and Roger Lichti; the Grades
7 & 8 awards went to Julie
MacDonald and Annette,
members in this area.
In preparation for the
Maytime dinner on Wed.,
The May meeting of the
C.W.L. was opened by the
President, Mrs. John Blake.
After the league prayer and a
short reading the roll call was
answered and membership
The McKillop Unit of the
U.C.W. held their May
meeting last Wed. evening at
the home of Mrs. G.
McNichol.
Mrs. N. McGavin in
charge of devotions opened
with a poem "Kindness is
Strong" the scripture taken
from Luke 1: 5 - 16 was read
by Mrs. G. McNichol, Mrs.
N. McGavin gave the
Meditation "God planted a
seed" followed by Prayer.
Offering was taken by
Mrs. M. Hackwell and
dedicated by everyone
singing "We give Thee but
Thine own." The hymn
"Faith of our Fathers".
Mrs. D. Dennis had the
by Mrs. Larke. McDonald at
the piano. They also sang
"Fairest Lord Jesus" later in
the service.
Receiving Sacrament of
Baptism were: Michael
Richard, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Clark of Port. Elgin
Blok.
Mr. Perrie presented cert-
ificates for the Grey Central
Science Fair. Joanne Devries
Kate Boon, Pauline Baillie
and Becky Dunbar were also
winners at the North Huron
Science Fair.
Mr. Herman presented
twenty academic awards to
Grades .Six, Seven and Eight.
May 16th, the group then set
up the tables and prepared
some food in advance.

mittee were named for the
year.
Business included discus-
sions concerning the next
meeting on June 12 and the
topic "Choose Life". This
part of the meeting was
closed by Mrs. McGavin
reading a poem "Do
Something".

business opening with a
reading "Nine lessons to
Live" minutes of the last
meeting were read by Mrs.
McNichol. Roll Call was
taken, everyone giving an
article from the media re:
Human Rights, Treas. report
was given by Mrs. Hackwell.
A social half hour was
spent and lunch served by
Mrs. C. Wey, Mrs. K. Rock,
Mrs. M. Hackwell and
hostess Mrs. G. McNichol,
(nee Pauline McCutcheon);
Brett,Murray Ernest Fischer,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Murray
Fischer; Janice Lee,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Jacklin; Tara Lynn,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ian
McLellan; Andrew Douglas,
Mrs. Lamont presented
prizes for the most tickets
sold for the Talent Night to
Bonnie Evans and Dean
Bentley.
Preceding the presentation
the Grade Seven class pre-
sented a Victoria Day pro-
gram.
Final Awards Day will be
Tuesday, June 26th.
Donna Knight invited the
ladies to her home for the
June meeting.
upcoming bazaar to be held
in early December. Members
were urged to encourage new
members to join and it was
emphasized that new mem-
bers are always welcome.
Guests at the meeting,
Christina and Cathy Terpstra
presented their public
speeches which were en-
joyed.
A report from the diocesan
convention given by Mrs.
Herman Plas and Mrs. Art
Jones included interesting
facts concerning education,
pro. life and community
responsibilities.
Members were urged to
determine where candidates
stand on the pro life issue
and vote accordingly.

met May 16 in the legion hall
with a good attendance. E.
Martin presided and the
meeting opened with singing
of "0 Canada" with Lulu
Kerr at the piano. Minutes
were read by secretary
Gertie Bolger. An invitation
to visit Huronview June 20
was accepted.
Cars were offered to take
the members wishing to go.
Mrs. Edna Hackwell gave a
reading entitled " A Garden
Party." Also two readings by
Frank Hooper.. "The flower
Wedding" & "Old time
politics" were enjoyed. A
nominating committee was
appointed and included Amy
Speirs, Marie Burgess and
Ethel Long.
Carol Wheeler favoured
with two dance numbers.
A few games of euchre
were played and winners
were: High Lady-Edna Hack-
well; High Gent-Eleanor
Hemingway playing as a
man; Low Lady-Verna
Thomas; Low Gent-Frank
The Senior Choir sang the
anthem entitled "Father Of
The Human Family."
"Erecting A Home" was
the message given by Rev.
Eric Le Drew.
The public is invited to the
Anniversary Services at
Ethel United Church on May
27 at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
with Rev. Rea Grant of
Listowel as guest speaker.
There will be no service at
Brussels.
