Treasure" sale. Who knows but what you
may find a valuable treasure there. Some-
thing interesting to do or see every day. It all
ends up with the Blue Grass Jamboree on
Sunday. You can get a bite to eat on the
grounds for there will be concessions run by
local organizations, where you can satisfy
your hunger.

The slaughter on Ontario Highways rose
alarmingly in the first three months of this
year. The main cause, we are told, is not
mechanical faults in vehicles, or weather
conditions, but the drivers of the vehicles.
Carelessness and lack of concentration takes
the lives of drivers and passengers. Drive
defensively! Drive safely!

Tractors are unsafe vehicles on which to
give children a ride. Again last week we read
of a six year old boy killed when he fell from
the tractor driven by his father. Time and
again we read, or hear about, such an
accident claiming yet another young life.
Still tractor drivers take the risk when a
youngster pleads for a ride. Better to
disappoint a child than to see him die
beneath your wheels.

It is hard to imagine any sane person
becoming so upset about being caught in a
gasoline shortage line-up that they would
resort to using a gun, injuring people. That
is exactly what happened in at least one gas
station in California. Some gas station
attendants are now wearing guns to prevent
robberies and unruly behaviour in long gas
lines: So far Canada has not had Such a
shortage, If it ever does come - it is to be
hoped we do not get such violent reaction
from disappointed customers.

residential mill rate is down 8,76 mills to
41.82 compared with last year's rate of
50.58. This represents a $35 saving for the
average taxpayer. The bad news is that
school rates have risen 16.54 mills and this
represents a $66 increase in taxes for the
ratepayer.
The village's commercial rate is down
10.09 mills to 49.20 compared with last
year's mill of 59.29.
Overall, a people with a residential
assessment of $4,000 will pay $584.28 in
taxes while last year they paid $536.44.. The
biggest cut is in the transportation and
streetlight budget, set about $13,000 less
than last year's.
Breaking the mill rates down separately,
the county residential rate increased from
20.10 to 24.28 mills and the commercial rate
rose from 23.65 to 28.57 mills. The
elementary school rate increased from 34.00
residential in 1978 to 44.53 this year and in
commercial from 37.78 in 1978 to 49.48 this
year. The secondary school rate also
increased going from 29.43 residential last
year to 35,44 mills in 1979. The commercial
secondary school rate jumped from 32.7 to
39.38 mills. The separate school residential
rate dropped from 38.4 to 32.27 mills.
Council was upset that while it managed
to keep the village mill rate down, the school
rates seem to be increasing every year.

year Mr. McCall inquired about Walt
Disney's family living in Canada, and last
Friday he received the following letter.
Your request left at Walt Disney World for
information about the Disney family in
Canada has been refered to the Archives for
reply, as I am the keeper of the Disney
genealogy.
Walt Disney's great grandfather, Elias
Disney, emigrated from Ireland to Canada in
1834. He settled just outside of Holmesville
and operated a grist mill. His son, Kepple
Disney married Mary Richardson and moved
to Bluevale around 1858, and it was there
that Walt Disney's father, Elias, was born in
1859. Elias grew up in Bluevale and went to
school in Goderich, before moving to Kansas
in 1878. Bert Rowden was a distant cousin on
the Richardson side. I have never had any
.,contact with him so do not know his address.
I hope that this information will be of help.

able to manipulate,"
Councillor Gord Workman suggested they
should let the county school board know that
they're upset with this. Councillor George
Cousins proposed starting a resolution that
the school board collect its own taxes but
was told it would probably go under File 13
anyway.
When Councillor Workman pointed out
that some municipalities do let the school
boards collect their own taxes, the reeve told
him that the boards had to agree to do so.
It was also pointed out that the town has
no control over the increased mill rates for
the schools.
The village budget for this year has been
set at $241,550 compared with a total laSt
year of $261,117.
Council also talked about some of the
vandalism that has been going on in the
village such as cars speeding through the
village and running over property. Council
decided to make the public aware of the fact
that all councillors are against breaking the
law and would report any infractions or
support anyone else who reported *NOlem.
They decided to call attention to this by
putting an ad in the Brussels Post.
Separate board
won't cut
convention
attendance
BY WILMA OKE
The Huron-Perth County Roman Catholic
Separate School board voted against
reducing the number of trustees- permitted
to attend conferences outside of Ontario, but
in Canada, at a board session Monday night.
The amendment to the board policy was
defeated when Trustee Ronald Marcy of
Stratford, on the Policy and By-law commit-
tee, presented a number of changes to
various policies when up-dating them. The
proposal to cut the number of trustees flying
to various conferences outside the province
was made because of the cost factor. At
present three trustees and one administrator
are allowed to attend at board expense and
the committee proposed that a limit be set at
two trustees and one administrator.
The board set the policy that attendance at
a conference outside of Canada by either a
trustee or an administrator must first receive
board approval.
Director of Education, William Eckert,
objected to having to get board approval
before he could allow a member of the
teaching staff or administration to attend a
conference outside of Canada because he has
control of that budget, He said, "I feel that I
should be judge of that."
The trustees' honorarium was increased to
$180 per month from $162,The allowance for
the board chairman was increased to $240
from $216. both retroactive to January 1,
1979.
