Mrs. C. Diamond, the
Provincial President of the
Federated Women's
Institute of Ontario.
She was welcoming the
Directors from all over the
Province to the Semi-Annual
meeting at the Lord Simcoe
Hotel in Toronto. The next 4
days would be spent in
decisions and deliberations
that would effect the 30,000
members in Ontario and.
indeed in society..
With the "International
Year of the and
health being the prime con-
cern, the members were
urged to go to their
respective areas promoting a
study and then definite
action in this regard.
Miss Molly McGhee, the
Director of Home Economics
Branch, Ministry of Agri-
culture and Food was,
pleased with the increased
enquiries regarding food pre-
servation, nutrition, and the
quality of foods. This shows
the need for the service of
this Branch.
In 1981 it will, be the
"International Year of the
Disabled Persons" which ef-
fects 10% of the population
of Ontario and she asked the
Women's Institute to become
involved in this project.
The Department of Home
Economics continues to pro-
vide excellent training for the
4-H leaders and Senior
courses which is a service
that makes available
unlimited learning for
thousands each year in the.
Province,
The Women's Insitute
with its interest in
Education, presented 13
awards to students at the
College of Family and Con-
sumer Studies at Guelph as
well as the County awards
through-out the Province.
The. Junior Women's
Institute is growing across
the Province said Linda
Tottenham and Ruth
McCurdy, the Junior Board
Directors. As the Federated
Women's Institute of Ontario
ceIbrates its 60th anniversary
this year with a reunion for

Waste from Maritime fish
processing plants could pro-
vide local farmers with an
inexpensive source of live-
stock and poultry feed .That's
the view of two scientists, K.
A. Winter of Agriculture
Canada's Charlottetown,
P.E.I. Research Station and
A. H. ,1 aved of the P.E.I.
Department of Agriculture
and Forestry .
They conducted tests
using fish silage as feed.
Based on thse studies, as
well as research using fish
silage in other countries, the
scientists see a definite
place for this feed in P.E.I.
and other east-coast provin-
ces.
To make the fish silage
they ground waste from Iow-
fat white fish, such as cod
and sole. then place it in a

special guests, the Federated
Women's Institute of Canada
will also celebrated its
Diamond Jubilee at the
National Convention in
Saskatoon in June. Many are
planning to attend from
Ontario.
Members are urged to
attend the Official opening of
the addition to the Adelaide
Hoddless Homestead on
June 1st from 2 to 4 p.m.
Don't forget the , special
events at the Erland Lee
(Museum) Home at Stoney
Creek. Mrs. Margaret
Zoeller, the Chairman of the
Committee spoke of the
demonstrations and displays
that will be ready for W.I.
week June 5th to 8th and for
Canada Week, These two
homes are important for the
founding of the Women's
Institute not only for Ontario
but around the world.
The Ontario Agricultural
Museum at Milton will be
open from May 1st to Sept.
with the Official opening on
June 8th. Don't forget to visit
the Women's Insitute Hall
while there.
Many other items of
business were dealt with
including the plans for
entertaining the ladies' from
Staffordshire England who
are coming in September on
an exchange visit; the rest
booth at the Royal Winter
Fair; Resolutions; a
vat. Organic formic acid was
added to control bacteria and
mold. The mixture was
stirred, then left for one to
two weeks while enzymatic
breakdown took place.

fishy taste or aroma in the
meat from calves fed fish
