Manfred Klaus the man who drove the c6w up from Sparten, Wisconsin was stopped at the border and told he couldn't drive livestock across the border like that until customes discovered that the cow he was transporting wasn't "live" livestock. Maitland Valley Financial Consultants Ltd. Members of the Afternoon Unit met at the home of Miss Lucas for the Easter Pro- gram. Mrs. Evans, vice-presi- dent read a poem entitled "Easter Again." A memorial verse was read in memory of Mrs. Sholdice and silent prayer was observed. The hymn, "Come Let us Sing" was used to begin the De- votional program. The Scrip- ture, Matt. 26 and 27 was read by Mrs. Hupfer. The meditation on "Holy Week" was presented by Mrs. Smith using the titles "Love, For- giveness, Hope and Eternal Life" as symbols of Easter Week. Hymn 360 "Take up Ladies Aid The Easter meeting of Melville Ladies' Aid was held at the home of Mrs. Matheson with Mr. Innes and twelve members answering the roll call with an Easter verse. The meeting opened with Blest be the tie that binds followed by prayers. A poem "As it began to dawn" was read by the leader , Mrs. W.W. Smith. The scripture from Mark, , chapter 15, was read by Mrs. Evans and Mr. Innes led in prayer. There is a green hill far away was sung. Thy Cross" was read in unison by the members. The study, "Living Faith for a dying Salvation" was read by Mrs. Smith. She enlarged on six divisions: 1. Put God first so that we shall be conscious of His presence at all time. 2. Make the Bible important through reading and study. 3. Understand people, with a Christian attitude. 4. Christ- , ian concern for otherswith an unselfish mind. 5. The reality of sin and we, as sinners. 6. God is still in control. Mrs. Evans read a poem, "Is God Real?" The Easter Thankoffering of the U.C.W. will be held Sunday Evening April 22. Mrs. Smith conducted a meets The secretary report was read by Mrs. Steiss, the treasurer report by Mrs. Dennis and the sunshine report by Mrs. Long. Several items of business were discusssed. Mrs. Smith gave a reading on "An impersonation of Mary Magdalene at Easter." Mrs. Smith thanked all those who took part and Mrs. Matheson for the use of her home. Following the closing prayer, refreshments were served. • The Majestic Women's Institute began their Cancer Campaign with a very,. suc- cessful Dessert Euchre in the Library Basement , held Monday, April 2. Approximately 60 ladies and men enjoyed a Classified Ads pay divid- ends. On the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary, 50 friends of Anna and Mietek Skowronski gathered as a surprise party at the home of Sam and Margaret Sweeny on Sunday, April 8, to offer best wishes and congratulations to the couple, Anna and Mietek were married April 10, 1954 in the, United Church, Tillsonburg Correspondent MRS. JOE WALKER 357-3558 Mrs. Glenn Golley, pre- sident of the W.M.S. of Knox Presbyterian. Church, Blue- vale opened the Easter Thankoffering meeting on April 1 in the Sunday School room reading from Acts, Chapter 1 and verse 3. The hymn no. 188 was sung. A cordial welcome was ex- tended by Mrs. Golley. Mrs. Alba Mundell was in charge of devotions with selections chosen from Matthew, Chapter 28, verses 1-10 and 16-20. Without re- surrection, there would be no hope. "He is risen" It is our duty and priviledge to observe all things. Love is the golden chain of all virtues and the most important thing in the world. Prayer was given by Mrs. Mundell. A musical selection "Alone". was sung by Shirley Snell, Eileen Walker, Sherry Robertson andKathy Snell. The next meeting will be on May 1 at 8:15 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Jack Jenkins with the roll call being sumptuous dessert and then sat, down to ten games of cards. Winners were Mrs. Ethel Long, Mrs. Margaret McCutcheon, Mrs. Jean MacDonald, Mrs. Ruby Steiss. Mrs. Marguerite Sanderson had the lucky chair. Proceeds from the dessert euchre will go to the Cancer Society. with Bill King, Jr. acting as best man. The weather that day was quite springlike. After a pleasant afternoon and evening spent in social chat at the Sweenys, a delightful lunch was served. After wishing the bride and groom many more years of happiness the friends left for their respective homes amid the falling snow. answered with a bible verse with the word "Joy" in it. The Synodical meeting will be held in Goderich April 10 and 11 in Knox Presbyterian Church and the theme this year is "The Light of the World." The offering was received, with Mrs. Golley offering prayer. The president, then introduced Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Thornton who shared their slides and commentary of Spain and Africa. It was a delightful trip they took us on, into hotels with them, seeing the country side, boats and harbours, beautiful churches, souvenirs , flowers, different people and their customs, dancers and animals. It seems to bring the other countries a little closer, to those of us that have never been travellers. Mrs. Wm. Robertson thanked Mr. and Mrs. Thornton and presented them with a gift. Hymn no 193 was sung and Mrs. Golley closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served and a social time enjoyed, PERSONALS Congratualations to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Moffat, nee Dayle Fischer, who were married at the home of her ' parents, Mr. and Mrs. 'George Fischer, Eriday evening. A reception followed at the Winghan, Legion. Mr. and Mrs. Jim I Pritchard of St. George, Miss Pat Pritchard and Mrs. Elsie Thiell of Toronto spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. George Fischer. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Brewer and family spent the ' weekend with Mrs. Mung MacFarlane. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Coe, Barry and Clarence were wekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Henning. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Douglas of Kincardine were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Walker and family on Saturday. Sunday school at the Presbyterian Church will start at 10:30 am. on Sunday, April 8 for the summer months.
