Saddle Club
has winter
cookout
A successful snow party
and cook-out was held
Sunday by the Seaforth and
District Saddle Club 30
members braved the chilling
temperatures.
Snowmobilers, skiers, to-
bogganers, and sleighers all
joined in good fun at Dodd's
Hills. Members were present
from Clinton, Listowel,
Seaforth, Londesboro,
Walton, Monkton, Kippen
and Dublin. Steaks and
burgers were cooked on the
campfire.
The Jack Nelemans family
from Walton arrived in style,
driving their nice little mare
in a flashy red cutter.
The next outdoor activity
of the club will be a Poker
Rally on horseback on
Sunday, April 22 at the
Hullett Conservation Area.
Anyone wanting to join in or
purchase a poker hand is
asked to contact a club
member. The Seaforth and
District Saddle Club is
holding its Annual Dance in
Brussels Arena, April 7,
again having music by Jim
Medd's Orchestra.
This dance provides the
funds needed to support the
activities of the club for the
year. Last year, lights were
installed at the horse ring on
the Fair Grounds. Also, the
horse ring surface was im-
proved by adding stone-dust
and removing the sod,
making better footing for the
horse shows, rain or shine.

Short Shots
are Canadian Figure Skating
Association judges.
The Brussels club has only
been a member of Inter-club
for about three years now but
lriterclub itself has been
going for about 15 years in
this area.
The top winners that
compete get points for their
efforts and the club that
obtains the most points gets
a team trophy and gets to
keep the trophy for a year.
"The idea is to start the
children in their own club
level and then break them
into higher competition,"
Mrs. Wheeler said.
Each club is allowed three
skaters in each of the 10
categories. That's why a
competition is held at the
local club level first so that
the top three out of each
class can ,o on to Interclub
competition.
Some of the categories of
skating are novice dance,
junior dance, intermediate
dance and senior dance.
There is also junior boys.
intermediate boys and senior
boys free skating, and junior
ladies intermediate ladies
and senior ladies free skat-
ing. The level that the
skaters have achieved in
their skating is the deciding
factor as to what class they
will be in for competition.
The competition will be
starting at eight in the
morning and end about eight
di Sunday night.
About 210 different skat-
ers from all the different
dubs have entered the
competition, Mrs. Wheeler
said.
grandsons, along with their parents, in the
house surely livens up a too quiet home for a
few hours. Up until now the youngsters have
been somewhat shy of my big dog,
justifiably so. This 'time Sheba was let off
her chain at their request. Together the
three merrily romped in the snow without
seriousmishap. It was good to see boys and
dog having fun together.
