beat the price increase
Because we're faced with increased
printing, newsprint, postage, wage and
overhead costs, Brussels Post subscription
and single copy prices must go up next
month.
After Friday, March 2 a one year's
subscription to the Post will be $10 a year in
Canada, still less than 20 cents a week or the
price of a cup of coffee. In an effort to help
.senior citizens on fixed incomes the Post will
Improved performances at the Canadian
Figure Skating Championships at Thunder
Bay, the Track and Field meet at Toronto,
and other sports events, is, perhaps, due in
part, to the fact that our Canadian athletes
are now receiving more financial assistance
than in the past. Relieved of some of the
financial stress, able to devote more time
and energy to their chosen endeavour,
encourages them to more serious dedication
to the perfecting of their skills. With The
encouragement and support of all Canadians
more of them may soon be able to challenge
the supremacy of their foreign competitors.

Talking of figure skating we compliment
the skaters who took part in the Brussels
Figure Skating. Club competitions last week,
also the instructors and those responsible for
organizing this successful event. Congrat-
ulations go to the winners of each class.
Intermediate and Senior winner will enter
the Interclub competitions to be held in the
B.M.&G. arena on February 25th. Why not
attend this affair and encourage our local
competitors?

Does your memory play tricks on you, get
you into embarrassing situations? Do you
suddenly forget the names of folks you have
known for years, forget dates, etc. etc. etc.?
Such forgetfulness is a nuisance. I know. I
am one of the memory laps victims as so
many people are. Take heart! It stated in the
recent Reader's Digest that researchers
claim memory can be remarkably improved
by treatment of a chemical called vasco-
pressin. It is sprayed into each nostril three
times daily for three days. They failed to
report if this would induce a permanent
improvement or if it would have to be
repeated time and time again. Until we hear
a great deal more about it I guess I Will just
carry on with my weakened memory. Excuse
it please.

and encouragement, none more than our
disabled athletes. They strive, with great
effort and 'courage, to overcome their
handicaps and proved beyond a doubt that
they too can achieve success in their
particular field. This was clearly demon-
strated at the November 1978 Pan American
Wheelchair Games in Rio de Janerio, Brazil.
Nineteen athletes representing Canada,
seven of them from Ontario, competed
against wheelchair teams from the U.S.,
Mexico, Jamaica, Peru, -Argentina, Chile,
Bolivia, Uruguay, Brazil, Equador and the
Dominican Republic. Over 300 athletes vied
for top honors in swimming, track, field,
basketball, archery, pentathalon and table
tennis. Canada's nineteen competitors capt-
ured ten gold, fifteen silver and fifteen
bronze medals.
They outperformed teams
twice their number. This performance
represented one of the most successful
endeavours of any Canadian team - able
bodied or disabled as reported in "Advo-
cate" published by the Ontario March of
Dimes. These athletes earned credit and
enthusiastic applause for their outstanding
achievement.

We are told, in an issue of "Concern" that
marijuana and other street drugs have
reached levels never enjoyed in the. years of
the so-called 'drug crisis.' They have been
the cause of suicidal tendencies in students
and deaths. Drug abuse is not only by the
young. his over prescription of barbituates,
tranquilizers and pain killers. Alcohol is
another major concern with the young. Bars
at social functions, sports events, and the
media., all give young children the idea that
liquor is" a necessary and natural part of
social and business life. Who are to blame
for this: We, the older people are the ones.
Many social drinkers know when they have
had enough and refuse More. Most young
people have not yet reached Maturity where
they have the courage to say "No thanks."

After a four year wait, Brussels counci .1
got some positive news on sewer
construction for the village on Monday
night.
Tenders for the sewer system, originally
planned for construction in 1975, will be
opened in Toronto on February 15, according
to a Ministry of the Environment letter.
By-laws authorizing the system's
construction and setting connection and
frontage rates were passed by Brussels
council back in April, 1975. Sewers were
under discussion, which includ&I an OMB
hearing when some taxpayers objected to a
sewer system, at least two years before that.
The OMB, after a 'hearing in the local
