The Snowarama, perhaps better known as the "Timmy run", is an annual event which during the past four years has raised over a million dollars for crippled children in Ontario. Last year the Snowaramas took place in 20 different areas across the province, including the Bruce regional one held at Mildmay. This winter, for the first time, the route of the local Snowarama will take in Wingham and the Lions, in cooperation with the Wing- ham and District Snowmobile ' Association, have gotten in- volved. Lion Andy Ritskes, chair- man of the local committee for the event, explained Wingham will be a starting point and check point for the 100-mile run and upward of 400 machines are expected to pass here that day, Jan. 28. Every penny of the money the club receives through the , pledges is used to help crippled children, Mr. Rit- skes emphasized; the club doesn't make a cent. In fact he expects it will cost the club between $500 and $600 for its part in running the event, which includes a free meal and snacks for all participants. Win McGavin curling bonspiel The McGavin Bonspiel was held at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Arena on Monday, Jan. 8th. Winners of the eleven o'clock draw and the McGavin trophy were Torn Jasper and his rink-Joan Jasper and Bob and Mary Ann Dempsey from Goderich. Scott McLean's entry from Listowel was second, Bob Alexander, Brussels took third and Ross Veitch got Consolation. The Nine o'clock draw was won by Doug Rathwell Listowel Curling • Club. Wilma was his vice with Cor and Joyce Schalk second and lead. Second prize went to Tom Moore and his team from Goderich Third to Gordon Pryce rink of R.R.4, Walton, and consolation to Jim Byers rink. Competiton was extremely close with seven tie games having to go to an extra half end to decide a winner. The December draw at the Brussels Curling Club was won by Ross Veitch with 521/2 points. Marg. Dellow played vice Fred Uler Second and Don Procter lead. Jim Byers team of Joyce Alexander, Floyd Herman and Allan Bakker were a close second with 511/2 Joints. The Curling Club's holiday jittney was on. Dec. 26th with local curlers enjoying a day of fun and exercise after all that Christmas turkey. Two ten end games were played with Dan Pearson rink coming out on top. Joyce Alexander, Dave Wheeler, and Janice Locking rounded out Dan's team.
