Santa Claus

Twenty-one Christmas
dinners were delivered to
senior citizens in their
homes in the Ailsa Craig
area last Sunday evening by
the Ailsa Craig Lions Club.
These dinners were provid
ed to the seniors who
because of poor health were
not able to join the others at
the Legion Hall for their an
nual Christmas meal provid
ed by the Lions Club.
Slightly more than a hun
dred sat down at beautifully
decorated tables in the new
Legion Hall for a full turkey
dinner with all the trim
mings. Lions Club Presi
dent, Earl Rees, welcomed
the guests and said how glad
he was that so many could
be present.
The meal, topped off with
pie and ice-cream and
Christmas cake, was cooked

The Lions were all on hand
to serve the meal and help
with the cleaning up
afterwards. “This is the
Lions Christmas gift to the
seniors in the area”,
reported Mary Rees, wife of •
the President.
After the meal the Lions
were thanked by Lome
Smith on behalf of seniors.
The meal was held in the
Legion Hall this year for the
first time rather than in the
Town Hall, as less steps are
involved which made it
easier for many of the elder-

graduate at Fanshawe

The cafeteria of the
Strathroy Middlesex
General Hospital was filled
to capacity last Thursday
evening as friends and
relatives gathered to
witness the graduation of
Fanshawe College’s Health
Care Aids.
Dr. William Butler, who
for many years practiced
medicine in the town of
Strathroy and currently on
staff of Fanshawe College,
gave the address. He prais
ed the care given in
hospitals and nursing homes

Among the graduates
were eight members of the
Craigholme Nursing Home
staff. These included Rose
Austin, Sheila Denno,
Thelma Marshall, Darlene
Robinson, Wendy Thomson,
Linda VanHooydook, Ron
Walker and Sandra Winsor.
Following the ceremonies
a wine and cheese reception
was held.

several visitors attended the
UCW meeting of the
Afternoon Unit of Exeter
U.C.
It was opened with a poem
“The Magic of Christmas”
followed by prayer, Mrs.
Earl Russell convened the
program with the theme
“The Spirit of Christmas.”
Mrs, A. Rundle read the
Christmas story as told by
Luke. A candle-lighting
service followed with can
dles lit by Mrs. J. Ellwood,
Mrs. W. Witmer, Mrs. E,
Russell, Mrs. Langford, Mrs.
E. McRoberts and Mrs. H.
Murray.
Christmas hymns were
sung between the various
parts. These were ac
companied with Mrs. A.
Willard at the piano.
Two very lovely solos were
sung by Mrs. L. Oke and
Mrs. A.
companied
Brodie.

gifts of gold, frankincense
and myrrh brought to Jesus.
Mrs. M. Dearing closed the
meeting with prayer.
A short contest was en
joyed while lunch was being
prepared and Frosty the
Snow-man appeared and
helped serve.

Residents of Ailsa Craig
were pleased to see the
traditional Christmas scene
being set up outside the
Ailsa Craig United Church
last week-end. Both com
munity and congregation
welcome its presence.
Christmas eve the church
will be hosting an
ecumenical carol service for
the community. The service
will be sponsored by the
local Ministerial Associa
tion and the four area
clergymen who have dubbed
themselves “The Uncalled
Four” will again be
providing special music.
A special service was held
at the Nairn Mennonite
Church Sunday morning as
the entire Sunday School
took part in the worship ser
vice. A special service of
scripture and carols was
designed by the teachers for
the occasion. A Church
Family Christmas dinner
was held in the evening
followed by an informal
period of singing Christmas
carols.
